    3 sets?

think I read some where (maybe in a tech tip) that ths XS11 uses one carb per cylinder and has for cylinders

    mro
btw, with them that clean might consider one "Black set".
Look pretty cool on my special.

Hey MRO ... Yes I have 3 sets of 4 carbs. The ones that came on my 1979F, The ones that came with the free 1979SF and a set I bough on ebay cheap. I still have one to clean and mount on that rack. Yes I may paint one set black for my hop up bike

Has anyone tried using tip cleaners for a torch??

Spray paint gun cleaning brushes are very similar. 4 tiny bottle brushes and a few different gauge stiff wires. That's what I used along with compressed air

DIFFERENT EMULSION TUBES On SAME CARB RACK ???

OK so the 4th carb body is now cleaned and the rack is complete. all that remains is the jetting and i hit my first question ... I did not record where the emulsion tubes came from because I expected them to be all the same. That was not the case. I have 2 of one type and 2 of another. the difference is in the number of holes in the sides of the tubes. I am guessing that the 2 richer ones would go into #2 & #3 carbs?? More holes in the sides = richer ????

Yep, the 2 richer ones go to 2-3. The ones with LESS holes are richer, those holes are air holes.

                  The Bowls

Don't throw those bowls out, Solder the holes up and find the right size bit and drill them out to the proper size. Then you are good to go !!

Fair enough .. but what is the right size? I guess I could also fill the bottom with JB wield and drill it to the proper size once the size in known.
I am guessing that the stand pipe makes contact with that jets face?? If so the JB wield could maybe be applied through the hole at the bottom of the bowl

                      Bit

Find a bit that just fits in a good one then use a very small amount of solder get it real clean and hot with liquid flux . Then dab a little solder on it and drill it out

Starter jets, go from .4mm on 78's to tiny .25mm on the 80's carbs(clymer manual), you'd need to drill then re-seal an access hole from underneath to get at the jet to solder and re-drill, a common .5mm drill bit would do it, it'll be richer than normal but what the hell it's only for starting, actually the starter circuit probably operates fine even with the jets drilled right out.. just use less lever?

That looks like it should work, pggg. It looks like you could also drill a larger hole, say about 3mm, then use a fine drift punch to punch out the brass jet. You could solder and re-drill it where it is easy to get at, insert it back where it belongs, then plug up the 3mm hole.

                                blinded by the light

maybe too late for these bowls, Rob, .... but a guitar string of the right guage is a pretty handy reaming tool (thx Prom) .... PLUS ... since I actually have more guitars than XSs (for now), strings are abundant here. If I were you though, I would try to get 'em a little more spotless .... .... oopps ... there's the oxymoron of the day.
