Carb Bowl Gallery's

The casting and drilling of the carb bowls would make it appear that these 2 holes should interconnect (see photo) . When I spray carb cleaner into ether one of them it only comes out where it was sprayed in. Should it be free flowing through them?

I twisted my neighbors arm to get me a gallon of industrial carb cleaner. NASTY STUFF but works very well. I soaked the carb bodies up to just below the butterfly seals for about 1/2 and hour and then brushed the outsides with a stiff toothbrush. I pushed tiny bottle brushes through all the gallery's and at this point air flows freely through every one of them. I had to steel wool the bowls as they were the worst off after sitting on POs bike unused for 23 years LOL LOL. Anyway I also wire brushed the outsides with a SOFT wire wheel.
When I am done rebuilding these carbs I will switch them out with the ones on my bike.

OK ... I'm not having any luck getting anything sprayed through there. Is this gallery "restricted" at the bottom? Or should it be very free flowing. I ask because I am close to drilling it out if I have to.
The angled hole at the bottom of the bowl is good but the one from the gaskets edge down hits a dead end that when measured appears to be just short of where the angled hole would meet it.

Holes Plugged

Take a piece of haywire or a very small drill bit and just use your fingers not a drill , work the bit in and out turning it between 2 fingers. just hard tarnish in it most likely.

I wouldn't go DRILLING down that hole, you'll destroy the jet that's down in there. Sounds like you just need a bit more cleaner and soft brush or small soft wire to clear the junk out from inside it??

I am Jealous of your carbs man. They sure are shiny. Anyway. try using compressed air to blow it out. I had to use that in combination with carb cleaner and a wire. Maby soak that part of the bowl again?? Yoiu should get a nice stream of carb cleaner going through them that will hit you right in the eyeball. If it does anything else its not clean

No I didn't see that PIC and was wondering if there was a jet or restriction down in there. I even checked the carb parts diagrams from bike bandit and they did not show anything as being at the bottom of that hole. Anyway I tried using compressed air through a needle tip and no luck. I also could not get a spray paint gun cleaning wire through it ether. Given that the bowls had CRAP in them that was as hard as concrete I drilled them ... so I guess that makes these bowls TOAST. I will finish the job at hand and use the bowls off my existing carbs on these carbs I guess.

I just checked the bit I used and it measures .062 inches in diameter.

Maybe these bowls will be OK? What do you think????

the hole is for the enrichener circuit . id try it ....
if not you might be able to press a bushing in with the right size hole ........

If the enrichener jet is made bigger by trying to clean it, the choke circuit will be too rich. I use a fine piece of copper wire to clean the small hole out.

Use a pin or sewing needle, probably won't go all the way thru. Stick it in the tiny hole and wiggle. Squirt some spray carb cleaner and set bowl so cleaner stays in hole, let sit, repeat once or twice till cleaner squirts out.

the orifice has been drilled out ...
So Rob needs to know if he needs new bowls or not ....
Cant hurt to try it , might be real rich warm up ??
A restriction like an old pilot jet jb welded in might work if its not right as is .
It will only affect start up , not running ....
forget what the orifice size was ??

I kind of figured that these bowls would be TOAST but that's not a problem other then the waisting of them. I have 3 sets of carbs here and my intention is to put together TWO GOOD SETS with no question marks about being clean enough or jetted to factory specs. Even if these bowls would work I will not use them .. they have become a question mark so to speak.
Anyway I now have 3 cleaned completely inside and out and the last one is in to soak over night. I will install all the jetting tomorrow. WOW 10 hours at it now but no question about it... these puppies are clean inside and out!!!!
