Oil Cooler?

Hey Scopey,

That one you linked to looks like it might be a bit too large vertically? Doesn't say what dimension it was, but said 10" fan!

If you look at the photos at the top of this page, note the small size of the cooler, to keep it away from the header pipes, and also with long enough hose to mount it high, so that air would flow thru it over the head, under the tank...very smart!!

Also, in those photos, there is an adapter plate that mounts in between the OEM oil filter chamber and the engine case. Inside the engine case is just a large 1/2" hole coming from the Oil Pump down into the filter chamber, then flows thru the filter, and into the threaded filter bolt and up into the engine. So....you couldn't just tap holes into your oil filter housing. However, you might be able to tap some threads into that 1/2" hole in the engine case, and then find a way to adapt the other end to fit into the 20MM 1.5mm pitch threaded hole where the oil goes up into the engine. If you did that, then you wouldn't need the OEM chamber, you could then use the remote spin on filter adapter with that KIT, or possibly some other kit with a smaller cooler?

Finally!! I got the inferred sensor. This is the first of many tests. I did not have enough gas to continue this test. See tank dent thread. I started the bike and let it idle for about 5 min. The head cooling fins were reading 170degF, some places close to 200. The inlet on the cooler was about 115 deg and the output was about 97. That much just sitting in my garage. No airflow. No I am taking into account that everything started at 67deg and the cooler actually had to heat. The real test will be to ride it and let it idle while monitoring the temperature. More numbers to come.

I know 18 deg is not a lot but I am hoping at higher temps the drop will be more evident.

I found a 6" fan you may be able to adapt.

AT-6 Fan - 6" fan generates approx. 500 cfm at 12VDC.
Mounting ring: 6 5/16 diameter x 4" deep; 7 1/4" overall depth with motor; 4 each 3/8" bolt holes set on outer edge of ring. Installs easily in a wall or ceiling between stud spacing.

Butt ugly and a little deep but maybe with a little imagination you could make it work.

with that fan, It would need to be in front of hte cooler. I am looking for something that would be hidden behind. I am still looking. If I don't find anything in a while, I am going to get a cheap motor with a rc plane prop.

Look for an auxillery fan for a computer case. 12 volt and could fit behind the oil cooler between the frame downtubes.

I used to build slot cars when I was a kid.
Back then the very best slot car motor that you could get was a globe (40,000 rpm,lots of torque, ball bearings,completely sealed & 12volts)
I checked and they are still in business.

It sounds like you know something about model airplanes. Maybe you could put the hobbies together and come up with an interesting oil cooler fan.
