- it'll kill your street performance due to an overgeared first gear and it'll cause MORE wear and tear on your lower two gears, If you don't mind Harleys and their like whipping your once legendary XS1100 from a standing start - then no worries. Also any fuel economy savings are simply peanuts in the overall picture. Sorry guys.
I ran my bike on taller gearing for over a year and got more or less the same mpg as stock ON AVERAGE, every tank fill I checked the mpg with calculater down to the final point kilometre to litre, there's no discernable difference beleive it or not!! Head winds and hard out riding soon knock any advandage of the taller gearing out the window. I'll say it again, you fellas are gonna agree with me eventually!! Sorry again for being a smartass
