I have worn steel toes for work for so long now that it is all I wear. Just wondering how many of you wear them while riding and if it affects being able to shift any?

I used to wear steel toes but now I'm wearing riding boots and they are very comfy compared to other footwear I worn in the past. I highly recommend riding or racing boots.

I wear them everyday to work/school - one boot to ride, same to walk around in. Doesn't affect my ability to shift.1979 XS11F Standard - Maya - 1196cc (out of order)

The shifter shaft if splined, so just loosen the lock bolt on the lever, pull the lever off the shaft, rotate it up a spline or two, and tighten the lock bolt. If it's as nice out where you are as it is here in WI, take a couple hundred mile test drive to make sure it's adjusted right......Frank

Not for me!!
I dont really like a boot with a large lug heel when riding. The heel gets caught up on the pegs. I like to have a flat sole,no heel boot when riding. They are more comfortable and I think they give you more traction if you stop at an intersection with gravel washed into the street. Is there any safety advantage to wearing steel toe boots when riding? Not unless you plan on dropping your bike on your foot!!!!Dan ( A.K.A.- MacGyver )

I wear a pair of engineer (steel toed) boots I bought in 1971...
'been wearing them 7 days a week except when I was in the military...
-they're been resoled about a dozen times, and by now they're VERY comfortable (WELL worn in)
I've never had a problem shifting with them since they were new__________________

I think if you guys tried riding boots some of you would soon change your tune. I used to wear what ever was on my feet at the time. Runners, steel toes etc. When I got my first pair of riding boots I was not impressed because they were stiff and felt weird under foot. I have however grown to really like them and can say that I would not go out even for a short ride with out putting them on. The are flat bottoms but have the toe part of the front cut so as to make full contact with the road when you put your toes down at a stop. They a WARM and FAST to put on and off with a 1/2 zipper and Velcro closures. Try them ... you'll like them.
