  • More stainless bolts

Hi all fellow xsers, Does anyone know where I can get stainless bolts for the front calipers on the standard. They are m10x1.25. At this point I do't care if they are hex head, but prefer allen. I have been everywhere with no luck. I tried looking for a previous post about a good fastener source that will sell individual bolts, but with no luck...thanks in advance....chop

    look ma no brakes

they say stainless has less tensile strength and to introduce it in the braking system...

i know, you know and you don't want ot hear it...

I use Bolt Depot. McMaster tends to offer fasteners in bulk, dpending on the size. Bolt Depot sells individual pieces and good prices, too.

      Bolt Depot

BTW, I did my discs and calipers in stainless allens:

      Discs & Calipers
      8X25L part# 6435 0.74 ea
      10X25L part# 6465 0.85 ea
      M8 Lock Washer part# 4815 0.09 ea

        thank you

I have had stainless allen heads in my drilled rotors for all 4 years of riding and have not had one problem. I do no race this monster, but do brake hard at times. I know tensile strengths are important, but also know that these six small bolts have taken a good beating with no problems,(STAINLESS LINES,DRILLED ROTORS and NEW MASTER CYLINDER). The bolts i need to finish hold the calipers and are very thick, much more so than the six rotor bolts. I wish my machinist would finish the my next set of wheels and rotors. I guess you shouldn't rush perfection...thanks for the info, I will get to searching for these...chop

              Randy,

That part no 6465 is 10 mm x 25 mm L, BUT it is 1.5 thread pitch, not 1.25 (JIS).

Neither Bolt Depot nor Nutty.com seem to carry the finer thread (JIS) bolts we need? At least, not any more.

                Oops My bad.

I had that part on my list, IIRC (two years back) I wound up ordering stock OEM replacements for those. The rest of the bolts are SS allens.

                  no u.s. source

there is no supplier for these m10 x 1.25, I can have 30ea of these made at $9.00/bolt (allen socket) if anyone is interested. You will need 4 ea for your both calipers. Thanks for all the info.I am currently seeing what a truely complete S.S. BOLT SET would cost to put together. There are some bolts in the middle gear and now calipers that have to be made locally. I paid a nice price for the steering head bolt, but my machinist said he would be interested in producing 20 or more for 1/3 price....anyhow I will post pics when my front end is done....chop

It would be a lot cheaper to put a 10x.5 helicoil in the hole in the fork then use a more common bolt.

I have a 10x.5 helicoil kit that I would consider loaning if you buy your own inserts.

Hey Chop, best I can do here in Canada on a holiday Monday is M10x1.25 hex head in 40mm thread length for CDN$1.50 each taxes in. I believe you need two 25mm and two 35mm, so you could cut these to length. If you're not in a panic, I can check with my regular supplier this week and they can get me pretty much anything you'll see on this page from Fuller Metric

The shop that is open here today only has the hex head bolts. During the week, I can check on socket head bolts and acorn nuts for you. Drop me a PM with your mailing address if you'de like me to send along 4 of the head head 40mm bolts to try out....
