I used some 3M spray glue to hold the seat to the foam. Most any stores like Walmart or auto parts carry it. Won't slip or slide around this way when you're trying to get comfortable on long rides in that modern day torture device known as an XJ seat.

I use these on top of the seat. I don't have any plastic under the cover, but don't know if the foam gets wet because these shed water, breathe, and don't let the sun eat the new cover.

There is a lot of info on http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com that I have gone through that I plan to look further into. I'd like to replace some of the original foam and customize it a little.

I have an electric staple gun, but as has already been mentioned, it probably won't be able to do the job.
