  • Bandit 1200, broke chain

This morning, on my way to work, I jumped on it a bit to pass someone on the ramp to the freeway. '99 Bandit, almost 17k miles.

Broke the chain. Didn't bind up in the wheel or anything, so I just ended up on the side of the road getting a tow truck.

Slight damage to the chain guard, sprocket cover destroyed, clutch slave cylinder destroyed. Rear sprocket certainly damaged. Found part of a chain link sitting on the starter.

So, really kind of missing that shaft drive right now.

I *think* I had it a bit too tight, but it was 500 or 1k miles ago that I last tightened it, and it's certainly been fine for a while since. Got a bucket of parts on the way to repair.

I figured I got off easy The pool of fluid on the driveway (after getting it home) is brake fluid from the clutch cylinder, not oil, so.. that's fine

I remember having a 230 quadsport and they had a bad habit of chains popping off and busting the sidecase so oil would be everywhere. I guess the swingarm bearings was the main culprit.
