While I've been waitying for my shoulder surgery, been working on this little maxim for an older guy. It has never run right since he bought it.
The cold compression numbers were 121, 118, 118 and 127. So checked his valve shims and only one was in spec so I pulled the cams to make changing them all easier. That whole cam chain guide and auto tensioner they used is a real mickey mouse set up.I haven't checked the compression again yet but will after I get the carbs done.
Anyway I have to do a full carb tear down to resolve a problem with the butterflys hanging open. On inspection it looks like there should be two springs on the #2 carb. I've never worked on Hitachi carbs before so I'm not sure if this is the case or not. The yamaha fisch diagram is useless.
Anyone know if a spring is missing or has someone just canabalized the wrong shaft parts from another set here?
