  • Other bikes owned

I'm sure this has been bantered about before but...

What other bikes do you own or have owned in the past?

I started with a Honda CL(?) 175, scrambler
    then a Honda CB200T that I chopped <snickering>
I don't remember the year of these two
next was the '78 CB400TII (Hawk) that I roadraced and was my only transportation for 10 years, except for
'72 Suzuki TS185 that was as dirt as possible and still be street legal.
Then came my '79 Honda XR250, lived in the country at that time so canal banks were my freeway.
I had no bike after 1994 until I picked up my 78 XS1100E in 2001
We now have that and SWMBOs XS750F, XS750SF parts bike, and our '84 XL250R which I ride often.
As soon as the trailer is empty we're supposed to go get an XS750SF that needs a bit of work (partser to the rescue).
This is it for now. I mentioned to SWMBO that I should get another XS1100 so I don't have to take fairing and hardbags off and on each season, she said OK . I'm actually looking another bike.....V-Max

More or less in order of ownership:

      1945 Harley 45
      '69 Honda 90
      '71 Honda 450
      (?) Honda 350
      '77 Honda 550
      '81 (?) Yamaha XS 400 Maxim
      '79 XS11
      Currently '82 XJ1100

Not as extensive a list as many, but I enjoyed all of them except the '79 XS 11 which was a partzer.

Most miles were out on the Honda 450 and the XS 400; both served as communting bikes (up to 150 miles a day) and I put over 50K on each before selling them.

My Honda Hawk was the only bike I've bought new. Put 45,000 miles on it. I miss it alot. Had a lot of good times on it and it got me home safely when I really shouldn't have been riding. I'm glad I've outgrown that lifestyle.
I have 13,000 on my 1100E so far still have many more miles to go before I'm done.

-1964 Honda 50 step-thru (I know, I know...wussy bike. But that was in the days of 'you meet the nicest people....' and I have some pretty fond mam... er...memories of those days)
              -1965 Honda 150 Benley
              -1973 Ducati 750 GT
              -1976 Honda 750F
              -1983 Yamaha Venture
-bikeless from about 1988 thru 2000 (teenage kids...career...you know the story)
-1978 Yamaha XS1100 current ride (fairing, trunk, bags, lowers...the whole rice cake)
              -1978 Yamaha XS1100 partser (a hopeful runner....someday)

I get a lot of positive comments on my 78E. As we know, these bikes don't look 25 years old and they sure don't perform like they're that old either. I went on a charity ride for alzheimer's disease this summer with about 50 other bikers in the area. About 600 kms (360 mi) for the one-day ride. I had the oldest bike on the ride and proud of it! Thanks to fellow XSives and wealth of info on this site, the more I learn about my bike and the more I ride it; the more I love it.

                Bike history

                I started with a:

                1. Taco minibike-1968.
                2. 1970 Honda CT 70.
                3. 1971 Honda SL 100.
                4. 1973 Honda XL 250.
                5. 1962 Triumph Tiger Cub.
                6. 1969 Hodaka Ace 100.
                7. 1978 Honda CB 750F.
                8. 1971 Honda CB 450.
                9. 1981 Yamaha XS11S.
                10. 1983 Yamaha XJ 750.

The bike I always wanted and was looking for at the time I found my 11S was a XS 650. Someting about a big inline twin. Don't know what other bike I would really like to have now-though I do have a ATC 110 motor that I would like to put in Mini Trail or Trail 70 frame.

If my signiture is still the same, thats it.

Wanted a bike... had no cash... so a 250$ worth of 1986 MZ 250 ETZ lay in a friends garage... dissasembled. Put it together, filled the battery and after a few weeks I was on the road for as long as the battery lasted... gave it to a friend for a bike paintjob of my choice... any bike, any paint. Got the paint, but the bike thats supposed to be painted went.

Saw (what I thaught was) a nice 84 Moto Guzzi V35... rode it for a summer, got even lower on cash, had to sell it.

A week after the sale my investments payed off and a 1985 GPz 600R found its home in my garage. Did bout 10.000km that winter, but there was little snow, so I was in luck. Not so much in the spring, when a crank/conrod bearing went to bearing hell, took the conrod and crankshaft with it, not to mention the oil pump and one valve-pushie-thingie (no, not the cam).
Replaced all bearings, oil pump and stuff, was fed up with it, sold it.

The friend that sold the GPz to me (ZX600 in the US) always teased me bout an XS that was in boxes.... so as a joke, we went to check it out. The bike looked quite nice under a few cm of dust, and me being a sucker for junk, bought it for bout 250$.
More than a year and at least 1500$ later the XS puffs out gobs of smoke, when #2 and #3 cyls work... when they dont... well... the bike runs only on 2 pots...
I guess I need a 1200 kit and.... a new motor. And forks... and wiring... Till today I made a total of 330km with the XS.

So now Im thinking of getting me a nice cheap newish (1990 something) bike and maybe save for a 1200 kit and all the other rubbish the XS needs.

Any donations in parts or cash are appretiated.
PS: I alredy replaced the primary chain (the 10 row one), camchain, 2nd gear fork and cogs, all engine and shaft drive bearings and gaskets, the TCI box, spark plug wires, pick-up assy., plugs, filters, handlebar (off a Z900), grips, brake pads, 2 valves, valve oil seals, battery, clutch and brake levers, complete exhaust system 4in2 and a bunch of other stuff...
I need a 1200 kit, petcock repair kit, new engine case and cyl. head with all the stuff in it, new tires, front forks, brake pistons and brake piston seals,...

                      LP
If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.
                      (stole that one from I-dont-know-who)
