    kph vs. mph

Looking at the speedo, the outer ring has to be mph rather than kph because the outer number is 70 while the inner number is 110. Since there are 1.62 kilometers in a mile, that jives.

I did try to figure out how fast he was going when it was pegged based on how fast the stripes in the road were going by. Here in MI, the stripes are set 50 ft apart (I assumed it's the same in FL), so trying to count how many go by and using a stopwatch, I only came up with about 140 mph.

So either the stripes were going by too fast for me to count accurately, or they're not 50 feet apart, or user error could've come into it.

Any way you slice it, this dude's movin!

That's the bike on this website:

      http://www.turbobusa.net/v3/turbo/prepa/sk.html

It's the real deal. It's putting out over 500hp, and the last I heard he had it running over 220mph.

Erik.... you said 50' in between stripes... but how long are you allowing for the stripes? They average 13.5 feet long here.
The first time I looked at the video, I was kind of like the majority here. I have been 165 in a cage on a few occasions, and that didn't seem fast enough to be 220+, but I also know that things look different on video than in real life.... so who knows.
I have been to about 145 on a V65 Magna in the past, and it FELT like 220! I had a full face mask helmet on... turned my head to look at a car I was going by.... DANG near couldn't straighten my head back up... wind held it sideways.

You can't tell by the stripes in a video (frames per second). I work at a hospital and we have helicopters land on our roof all the time. When watching the live video feed from the cameras it still looks like the rotor blades stop, then go backwards, stop, then go forwards again.

OK... I went out this morning and ran my XJ up to @ 100mph for a little bit, and imagined seeing the view from the camera... I think maybe he was going that fast... because stuff was just kind of piddling by at 100.... in the video, it is flying by waaayyyyyyy faster. It kind of put it in perspective for me... I'm a believer!!

                          stripes

trbig- in MI the stripes are 12.5 feet long and there's a 37.5 foot gap, so from beginning of stripe to beginning of stripe is 50'. So if they're different in OK, then they could certainly be different in FL.

Here's another argument for the 220 mph being accurate. In road design, we use perception-reaction time in stopping sight distance (i.e. based on how fast you're going, what is the distance you travel by the time your brain processes information and is able to make a decision about it).

A brain can only take in so much that the eyes see. So the faster you're going, the farther ahead you have to look in order to be able to reacto to something down the road. Peripheral vision is sacarificed to accomodate- tunnel vision.

Watching the video, you're able to look at anything on the screen and make note of it without putting yourself in danger. But when you're actually traveling that fast down the road, you're probably not going to notice how fast the stripes are moving by because you're more concerned with not biting it because of something in your path.

In short, I'm a believer of the authenticity of it.

I would like to get a busa someday too. I'm just afraid that while I'm perfectly comfortable with the power of the XS, it's the only bike I've owned and I'm afraid that a busa would be to much bike for me. I probably should start out with something like a GSX-R 600 and work my way up.

All you have to do is look at the tach to verify the speed. A stock 'busa will pull 190 MPH+ at red line in top gear. I have no doubts that this guy is doing over 200MPH. I get a little nervous at 100 MPH on my XS, so I'd be wasting money on a 'busa. You guys that are looking at buying one, keep the shiny side up and look out for cagers.
