World's Fastest Indian
I was fortunate enough to see the movie during my trip to New Zealand in December. It was released there ahead of the States since Munro was a Kiwi. While there, I also got the chance to see one of three working models of his bike in existence (I think it was the one they used for the movie). It was at the Te Papa museum in Wellington. They've got a decent site here: that tells the story pretty well.
I have to say, coming from a farming background and growing up around my dad in the machine shop, that bike was downright scary! I don't think they gave you an accurate idea of the bike in the movie. A couple of close-ups would have done wonders. The bike was the absolute definition of custom...it was truly a Ratbike...hobbled together from pieces of whatever was lieing around the shop.
I'm impressed...it's almost enough to inspire me to try to break his record (which still stands to this day, btw). If that bike could do it, I think I could put something together that would be a lot safer than his bike.
All in all, the movie is a must see. I'll have to see if I can find the photos I took while I was there. Maybe I can put them online!
