    World's Fastest Indian

I was fortunate enough to see the movie during my trip to New Zealand in December. It was released there ahead of the States since Munro was a Kiwi. While there, I also got the chance to see one of three working models of his bike in existence (I think it was the one they used for the movie). It was at the Te Papa museum in Wellington. They've got a decent site here: that tells the story pretty well.

I have to say, coming from a farming background and growing up around my dad in the machine shop, that bike was downright scary! I don't think they gave you an accurate idea of the bike in the movie. A couple of close-ups would have done wonders. The bike was the absolute definition of custom...it was truly a Ratbike...hobbled together from pieces of whatever was lieing around the shop.

I'm impressed...it's almost enough to inspire me to try to break his record (which still stands to this day, btw). If that bike could do it, I think I could put something together that would be a lot safer than his bike.

All in all, the movie is a must see. I'll have to see if I can find the photos I took while I was there. Maybe I can put them online!

      Worlds Fastest Indian

Went to see it with my better half last nite. Both of us enjoyed it very much. What a treat to see a "guy" movie sans violence, sans crudity, and sans nudity.
I grew up reading about this guy in the cycle mags, but not really knowing what this guy went through to follow his dream. I recomend this movie highly!
Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
      I've been riding since 1959.

Saw it over the weekend, it was great.

There's a great line in the film that goes something like this:

"Going flat out like that you live more in five minutes than some men do in a lifetime"

        'Bout says it all.

            It pays to complain...

I started a complaint campaign to the local theaters and, lo and behold, Worlds Fastest Indian is now playing. A bunch of us local riders are going to see it tomorrow.

I finally watched this movie last night. It is absolutley awe inspiring. Burt Munro was one determined individual and the odds he overcame to break a world land speed record will be indelibly etched in my mind.

This is a must see for any XSive and required for all aspiring GURUs.

                  Get the DVD

My son Eric was in New Zealand when they were shooting the movie, he e-mailed to say "you gotta see The World's Fastest Indian"
Insisted my wife came with me to see it at the local Specialty theatre. She liked it too. I arranged that it be the feature movie for this year's Biggar Bike Rally (the Majestic always runs a motorcycle movie for us that Saturday) so saw it on the big screen a second time. Then my wife bought me the DVD for my birthday. You gotta see the DVD version! The actual movie is the same, but the extra features alone are worth the price. Extra scenes which tie up some loose ends, a tour of Invercargill, a "how we made it" feature and most importantly, film of the real Burt Munro riding some of his bikes and giving interviews. Until you see the real Burt you won't know how perfectly Anthony Hopkins copies Burt's accent & speech patterns. He even manages to look like him.

Gotta agree with Maximan once again...awesome movie and the wife liked it too. Like Fred says, get the DVD, the extras are worth it...great story about Burt's reply to the hospital where he went with a heart attack when they told him how much it would cost per day..."I'll die in my car!" Dunno why they cut that scene from the movie. As a reformed Britbike guy, I liked the shots of Burt on his Velocette single too.

We joined Netflix last month and that was the first movie we had sent. It was great.

                                nice attention to detail

Not only was the story and acting very good but also the background- 50's cars, clothing, buildings, attitudes. Anthony Hopkins was fantastic as always.
