which exhaust to go with

I've had both

I had a MAC 4 to 1 on the '82 XJ...then last year I had a chance to get one of the last new Jardine 4 to 1 exhausts with black headers and chrome oval muffler.IMHO with my lousy hearing I have to say the Jardine is more mellowed sound than that of the MAC...both are louder than stock but the Jardine sounds better. If you can find a Jardine Spaghetti sys then I'd go for that...but those are few and far between. I also have a Kerker 4 to 1 on my '81 XS1100SH and its louder than my Jardine but Its a great exhaust sys. I love the way the exhaust note "growls" and when you blip the throttle it barks !

Besides the thin wall construction and cheap @ss chrome, I like the Mac 4-1 with the baffle gutted and rebuilt with a straight tube. Loud and sounds Baaaad. Makes good HP that way.

Does anyone sell a kerker, supertrap old exhaust for the XS1100E? thanks Morgan.

ps. I know jardine and mac are still available, I wanted to see if I could find the back half of my 4 into 1 supertrap system I bought from Bob Jones. The end where the baffle is is all scratched up.

I know kerker owns supertrap, but do you think kerker has parts for a 1978 4 into 1 supertrap exhaust? I have not been able to find the back half. It has the blue square plate that says supertrap on it. If you remeber the ad in the back of many old magizines(picture of a guy on the side of the curvy road on his kawy GPZ 1100, advertizing the (blk) same 4 into 1 exhaust I bought from Bob Jones that was already on my XS1100E when I bought it. thanks , Morgan.

Check the site. I bought new inside parts for the Kerker on MY '79 XS. I didn't look that close at the Supertrap side, as I didn't have that system. Should be able to find something that works with the outlet diameter of the collector.

I like the way the Kerker looks. The muffler might even be high enough to get the rear axle out without removing the exhaust. The Kerker seems to follow the lines of the bike better with that extra bend in the down-tubes. The Jardine covers up the rear axle so you'd have to remove the exhaust before you could remove the rear wheel. The Kerker might make it a little harder to work on the rear brakes. Not sure if it provides enough clearance to get the caliper out. I have the Jardine 4 to 1 and I'm happy with it.

Harley pipes

Best thing is they're cheap or even free and the really good thing is no need to rejet. Just cut off the old ones and weld on a short tube and then clamp the Harley pipes to them. They even sound good. I got the ones for the 1340 cc engine.

FYI and I hope my memory is correct on this. Gary's bike with the Kerker...I think he had to either remove his centerstand or can't use it if it's still on there. With the Jardine, I am able to use the centerstand with no problems. Maybe Gary will stop by on here and confirm.
