It could be that Santa set me up with my next bike, I'll know Saturday in which case someone will be getting my current bike as a present.

To all: Make sure you drain those carbs by removing the plug on the bottom of the fuel bowl.

Merry Christmas. Currently have the bike on the lift working out an oil leak from the shifter cover.

Super -thanks!! I started the bike today and ran it, then shut off the fuel until the bike died. I removed the battery and didn't have a wrench only deep metric sockets that wont fit the drain plugs.

If you can't drain right away, which happens sometimes, the next time you are with the bike (before starting) you can remove the plugs and turn on the petcocks to "Prime" (with rags or a tray under the carbs) to flow fuel into the bowls and that will flush out any nasty sediment that has accumulated in the bottom of the bowls. Then shut the petcocks off, and return the plugs to the bowls. Now you can start the bike and not suck up any debris into the tiny jet orifices. I do this with all my bikes/equipment every spring.

Great tip-yes I usually drain the bowls in the winter so I don't have issues. Doesn't take much to clog up the pilots.
