No, OEM petcock on both my Standard and Special.

why would you bother using a petcock?
With no petcock, how will you shut off the fuel when removing the tank?

I believe this answers the original question as to whether or not the stock petcock will flow enough fuel to feed all four cylinders.

ever took the tank off a Hayabusa ? they have two pipes coming from the tank with no taps, but the bike comes with two rubber plugs. you pull one pipe off and try and get a plug on the pipe as quick as you can, then do the other one. as you can guess theirs fuel everywhere bad design by Suzuki

The electric valve would shut it off.

The way I look at it, it takes 10 minutes or so to drain a full tank through the petcock with a hose (pipe) attached going into a can. I don't think the engine can burn a full tank in that little amount of time, even at WOT.

Regarding the taking your right hand off the throttle argument, why not just leave the right side on reserve? When the left side goes on reserve, get gas.

yeah thats an idea but when on reserve more crap can get through to the carbs, the ON position has a tall tube so its harder for the small partials to get into the tap. and if water gets in the tank it sits on the bottom and can get through the reserve side. I try to stay away from reserve if I can as much as possible.

If you do that, I believe you’ll find much of the reserve gone when you need it. You might be will into it before two cylinders drop out. Flipping two taps to reserve has never been an issue for me.

As an aside, my fuel gauge isn't very accurate but consistently shows about 5/8 of a tank when it's ready to switch to reserve. I've never owned a car with a reserve valve on it.

My Special has no fuel gauge. It has a low fuel light. My XS650 has nothing of the sort. I flip to reserve when I run out of gas or the odometer tells me it’s time to fill up. The XS1100 is a gas guzzler. My car does better.

This is the tool for this situation. Pinches the fuel off for safe removal.

What do guys think of this manual type? Not sure if it would flow enough if only one side was used.

I have some of those. I believe they flow the same as OE or at least close enough.
