      how much extra power

how much extra power can a XS be expected to produce reliably to play a radio and keep everything else like the headlight and gauges going, wiothout draining the battery?

do any of you with installed radios have an ammeter also to keep an eye on the charging system?

all this talk has got me thinkin that i might appreciate a nice radio. no fairing though, so i think mine will go into a tank bag type arrangement..... mebbe with a cigarette type plug in so it would be easily romovable... hmmmm....

I have always had the radio on my bike. No noticable power drain. The XS is notorius for having a weak electrical system but I havent had any probs with my radio setup.

          Tunes

Well I thought about using a portable Cd player or a MD Mini Disc player because it is smaller and the disks are easier to take care of, but that means little speakers jamed in your ear for hours just rubbing on the helmet and you. I'm not sure if that would get me a ticket either.

Well... it depends... when the XS was running, I had a JVC tape/radio and external speakers in my in-dash audio system on my Vetter... but you can barely hear it at speed... then I switched to a Sony CD player in my tank bag... ran the wires out the bottom to some connectors below the tank which then fed sone Optimus "in-ear stereo phones" inside my helmet. Problem was that they hurt... even ground them down some, but with my full face helmet, there was too much pressure. Lately, I go with the previous post...the songs are in my head!

MP3 Is All There Is For Me

For 100 bucks I picked up an Irock mp3 player at radio shack.. coupled with something like winmx downloads... omg.. I can only store about 2-4 hours of music on it, but it's 1/4 the size of a box of cigarettes', so you can put it in a pocket or what not. Stores with the current memory card like 34 songs. Never skips.. you can drop this on the ground and it will keep playing.

On top of all that, you could also hook it to one of those adapters that connect say a portable cd player to a car cassette player (for all those krapco vetter stereos) and listen to the same tunes out the bikes speakers.

Personally I like the behind the ear speakers I have that fit nicely in my zeus helmet.

When your only driving 15 minutes... I'd rather listen to the bike. But for the long hauls... gotta have real music.

                                Mike
