Do You Ride With Tunes?

Any one ever had the feeling or maybe the correct way to put it is no feeling.......once coming back from a ride east I seemed to lose all sensation below my arms, it was like I was'nt sure if I was actually balancing the bike or if it was balancing itself....we were doing a lot of hiway miles and I was'nt on drugs or anything so I cant explain the lack of sensation and numbness....good the bike kept upright ! Numbum to the Xtreme......

That clears that up Bud thanks for the info, maybe you have Xperienced the same thing before or are you in the medical comunity....anyway, next time I'm on a long haul I will know what to do.

I have ridden with a portable player, but didn't care for the loss of that sense while riding.

I think that music while you ride is cool if you have a fairing with speakers in it. Earbuds scare me and totally take away from the ride. I listen to all kinds of music in the car, because I hate driving in the car and it's a good way to make it be less boring. But getting out in the wind and listening to the bike and the nature and all the sounds around you is all part of the riding experience for me. The therapy is in the ride and the sounds of the ride. I plug in the stereo when I'm wrenching, and that's about it.

Around town, I don't usually have music. But I have an intercom and xm radio, so it is always available if I want it.

Me helmet is connected with a breakaway plug to the intercom, and I have speakers in the helmet, so no in-the-ear plugs. I do have a set which are small enough to not cause irritation, but seldom use them

I refurbished my OLD Bell helmet and put in some speakers. With an 1/8 in stereo adaptor and my CD player, I can play radio or CDs

I don't think it's really about being able to hear external noises, I think it's where your head is at. Of course that car horn is going to blare above your headphones. The problem is if the cage-driver has to lay on the horn before you realize he's there. Or if he even does give you the "courtesy" of laying on the horn. I haven't been riding for very long, but I have been driving since I was 18 and even now there are times when I have to re-center myself when I realize I've been concentrating on the music too much. I guess it has a lot to do with your experience and skill in dealing with it, but you have to admit that it is an added distraction no matter how you look at it. Dan, I know from your other post that you've only had one crash, so I'm not really talking directly to you, just musing universally.

Personally, if it's all about the ride, then it's about my experience while on the bike, the sights, the smells, the feel, the sounds. Not the baggage I bring to it. I, like others have mentioned, enjoy listening to the music of the engine. I imagine after awhile riding I might get to the point where I get tired of that and want something different, but I hope that day is later to never.

To each his own. If you enjoy tunes while riding, and it doesn't take too much away from your concentration level, then that's good for you.

Well, I have a lot of experience driving all nighters. The only thing that can keep me awake is music. coffee makes you pea. It is not a good idea to ride like that, but on long cold rides late at night by your self, it sure does help.

Yep im with the Ipod group...lol.....mini H/phones under my helmet and im off.....just got to remember that others cant hear what i hear but the CAN hear my singing.....dont think i'll go for american idol just yet...lol
