Just an update…
Rings from The O-Ring Store were too large, even the smallest they had, 3mm x 5mm. I rebuilt the carb using genuine Kohler kits; one for the main carb and one for the choke assembly. The chipper is now running and I put a few small branches though it; results look good. I have a couple minor things to do yet but for all practical purposes the chipper is functioning.
Cost for the two kits came on at about $75.00. Choke kit was needed to replace a broken plastic choke linkage arm; part not available as a separate item. Main body had gaskets, new screws, new main jet, O-rings for the low speed jet (which are the rings I really needed) and a few other parts and pieces.
Now I have to go through the steps to bring in an out-of-state trailer which will involve a temp plate, certified VIN inspection, and payment for a title, registration, and a plate. Hope to have all done by mid-May which is when I hope to take the chipper up to my lot and begin putting it to use.
A 2:41 video showing the chipper running and chipping small branches is on my blog page:
Thanks for the advice and help. I know Keihin carbs are used in a lot of applications, but this particular down-draft model does't see a lot of use outside of Kohler engines, and even the new Command 25 had a dual-barrel model that has replaced my single-barrel. It is not only XS11s that have parts drying up.
