Thanks for the info but it is not the sizes I need. What I need is to know how to tell the difference between genuine Mikuni jets / parts and after market jets / parts.
I have 8 pilot jets here all stamped as 42.5 but 2 are marked in a different manner then the other 6. The holes in the noses of these 2 jets are slightly larger then those on the other 6 so I need to know which ones are genuine Mikuni jets. Genuine Mikuni jets may be marked in a specific fashion or have other marks on the.

I asked Jetsrus for genuine Mikuni parts and they told me in an email they don't carry genuine Mikuni, go see a Yamaha dealer. Careful with these guys. They also tried to rip me off because I'm in Canada and added a $25 processing fee because funds are coming from Canada. I'll never shop there.

When I got my jets last time they came in sealed individual bags genuine mikuni part number and description on them so if they do not come packaged from mikuni they are not, as to ensuring what you order is right I have no idea other than I ordered mine from Yamaha and specifically asked for them.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.
To give JetsRUs a voice in this, I e-mailed them to get their take on some of the statements made in this thread.
My e-mail:
Mike,
According to a post on the XS11 Owner's Association, a member stated that through communication with you, was told that you do not carry genuine Mikuni jets and to "go see a Yamaha dealer". Is this true that the advertising of GENUINE Mikuni jets on your website is incorrect?

We sell GENUINE jets and oem equivalents. I appreciate you taking the time to ask the question direct from the us. We indicate on the website when a jet is GENUINE and when it is not. Here is a link and for convenience I will post the contents of that link. Thanks again for taking the time to check.
For most jets we now offer two types: 1. GENUINE and 2. OEM EQUIVALENT
1. The Genuine jet was made by the carburetor manufacturer and came as original equipment in the carburetor. The engine came off the assembly line with GENUINE jets installed.
2. Our OEM EQUIVALENT jet is a copy of the Genuine jet.
The advantage of the Genuine jet is that it is made by the manufacturer of the carb to very tight tolerances, resulting in an extremely high quality jet.
The advantage of the OEM EQUIVALENT jet is the lower price. We do not buy our OEM jets from the lowest cost suppliers like most places. We only use 1 manufacturer for our OEM EQUIVALENT jets for lot consistency and match the jet number, orifice size and flow rate of the Genuine jets. We have a relationship with 1 manufacturer that we have used for years, most others cannot make that claim.
Be aware that many places sell Mikuni and Keihin jets and advertise them as GENUINE, however often they are counterfeit.

Hi Ben,
I reviewed some of the post and it looks like many are trying to figure out how to tell if a part is a genuine part or not. Some of the post link to other threads and in reading a person suggested that only its only genuine if the part comes in a bag marked Mikuni. Some post suggest that it has to do with a prefix or a certain number. The best method is to check the part for the Mikuni symbol. Mikuni is a square within a square. Click this link for a picture of the symbol.
Generally speaking if it is made by Mikuni it will have a square within a square stamped on it. Unfortunately not all mikuni parts get the stamping, I don't know why, that's just the way it is. In addition sometimes in the manufacturing process the part will miss the stamping operation and will not have the mark. If anyone wants to know if a part we sell is genuine or not just email us with our part number and we will let you know. Have a little patience with us because we sometimes have to check with our supplier to verify.
Just because a part is in a bag marked mikuni does not mean it is or isn't a genuine mikuni part. For example I buy in bulk, my customers want a good price they don't want to pay for someone to put a jet in a bag that says Mikuni. Part is numbering does not mean it is or isn't a genuine part. For example everyone has their own part numbering system and that numbering system is simply used to identify a part and a location.
Price is usually a good indicator of a genuine part, if its too good to be true its probably isn't.
Please reply to this email with all prior emails. It is the only way I can keep up with the situation. As always if ordering jets be sure to compare our jet dimensions to your jets to verify the correct jets have been ordered.
Thank you! Mike

Hi Ben,
I have a third reply to you, hope this information is helping you and the members on the forum. Please post these replies on the forum as I am not a member there. The comment about us selling parts that are not genuine started from a person in Canada who said " tried to rip me off because I'm in Canada ". Yes it is true that we charge a higher shipping fee to anyone whose sale has a high potential for fraud. We have found over the years that if a person is in the USA and has a USA account then the transaction has a low rate of fraud. Where we see fraud occur is in situations where the person does not meet those safe sale conditions for example outside USA with a USA account. I don't want to explain how the fraud occurs because I don't want to educate potential thieves on how to steal, I just want to state there is a high frequency of fraud. To be able to sell parts internationally and keep prices low for USA citizens we had to go to a different sales method for people that don't meet the safe sale requirements. Most of our customers understand this is how the world is today. Unfortunately this upsets the some people who feel we are "ripping them off" and it also upsets the would be thieves alike. Unfortunately those upset people vent frustrations on forums, not considering the lives they affect. I understand the canadians frustration with the higher fee, bit I am sad that he chose to post the untrue comment that we "don't carry genuine mikuni". Comments like that can not only affect jets r us but employees working here. How can that be? some may ask. If sales are impacted by untrue statements we would have to lay off folks working for us. That's not good for anyone.
Thank you for taking the time to follow up. I did post your e-mail in the thread.
Just like you describe occurrences of fraud, consumers purchasing over the internet have similar concerns about the quality of the product they will receive. In this case it appears there was a perception of the quality of a product most likely due to a communication breakdown that led the individual to conclude that the products are not genuine or other similar situation that left them feeling vulnerable as a consumer.
It appears you have plenty of helpful information on your website for identifying genuine parts and clearly state that you carry genuine products while also offering a lower-cost alternative. Realistically, this occurrence will likely have little to no impact on an individual decision whether to purchase from your website, but this is the world we live in where businesses live and die by public opinion.
Thanks again for following up and hope you ultimately see this as positive by having the opportunity to set the record straight.
Just for grins I dug through my stash of old pilot jets and found a set of Genuine Mikuni's. They do have the logo stamped on them, and it's on the barrel underneath the threads. That's also where the size is stamped - right next to the logo.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
Usually genuine Mikuni parts have that funky square in a square logo on them. Not sure you'll find it on the pilots, but it looks like this -
WOW, it looks like this thread went sideways LOL. Thanks for posting this info. This was all I wanted. With a magnifying glass I can see this mark even if not fully embossed on some of the jets.
