Seriously, I don't know what effect blood thinners would have on your ability to drive, reaction times, and other issues. I am not a medical person, but on the face of it I don't see why you should stop riding unless there are serious side effects from the on-going medication.

Thanks for the prayers and good wishes for Mom! Chemo is rough, the first course is almost done and she's exhausted.


The deal with the blood thinners is from the drug and stent companies themselves. Apparently I'll have to take dual blood thinners (aspirin and Brilinta) for about 30 months to keep from getting blood clots in or around the stents while the artery wall grows through them and gives them a happy home. If I'm still alive I'll take it from there.

In the meantime there are stats that show significant death rates from bleed-outs while taking blood thinners and they get more significant over time: darned if I do; darned if I don't. Motocross, rugby, and skydiving are not a good idea but chillin' out and keeping the shiny side up will probably be alright if I don't get carried away, lay it down or bump into something.

Really sorry to hear about your mom, hope she has been given a positive prognosis.

Cody (Maximan) can relate to what you're going through. He had stints added about 5 years ago. But he had no clue he was a cardiac candidate. They found his problems during a routine physical.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Take care of her, hope she's around a good long time for you. As to riding on blood thinners, just try to be safe. That's what I do, but Then again, I'm a Hemophiliac that rides a motorcycle, I know, not the best hobby for someone with my ailment, but what the hell, everyone does something, right? Blood Thinners vs. Balance

I have a blood condition that has more letters in the name than my keyboard. The thinners affect my balance in that I must rely on sight to stay upright. I have trouble walking in the dark. I no longer ride at night.
As luck would have it, when I ride I have my eyes mostly open. It took some conditioning but I do not rely on balance to ride. At slow speed or stopped, I just keep the preceded horizon in perspective and do whatever I need to keep it that way.
Sometimes when I climb off the bike and remove my helmet, I lose visual acuity and stumble around like a drunk. It hasn't happened yet but there will be some 'splaining to do if I had to perform a field sobriety test.
