I can relate
to the problems you're having. My hand will go numb after about 5 min. While I have a throttle lock highway riding isn't so much an issue but everyday stop and go is problematic.
I'm adding a damper to the stock bars while both bikes are down and as I have an abundance of lead shot I can fill the bars to see if that clears it up some.
I hope your surgery is successful, keep us posted.
I suppose I should look into that now while I have insurance.

Get well

I need to have surgery on the right hand or risk nerve damage if I let it continue....being retired and on a fixed income i fall into that class of people who have no health insurance and cannot afford any...
So at this point it looks like I'm done riding motorcycles after 38 years on street machines and a childhood on borrowed mini bikes and dirt bikes...Will keep the bike for a while yet as I'm just not ready to severe all ties.....but the writing is on the wall...
Sorry to hear about hands. Good Luck. Surgery is generally my Last choice. I recommend winterize bike. Try all the healthy supplements. Rest hand. Get well, Surgery if needed. Also I have seen some gloves that were designed to help with this, with padding strategically placed to protect nerves.
I hope to See you in the spring

How much does the operation cost over there?
From what I know they can do it with optical fibre non intrusive stuff but the reality is that the old school slice of the hand works much better. I have tried to post a picture of what it looks like afterwards but stuffed if I can get a picture to upload on this forum site.
In the end it's your motorcycle riding and hands vs money.
Spend the money and get your life back would be my tip for the day.

Obama is going to force you to have insurance anyway.
Check with VA and see if they cannot help.

no improvement after 4 weeks of homeopathic remedies...ready to see real doctors...got my affordable healthcare and starting Feb 1st i will be seeking out a surgical solution. Things you take for granted everyday that we all do without a second thought...until the time comes when doing those has become difficult and painful...normal crap like getting dressed... tying your shoes holding a fork...starting your car... or trying to grip the throttle on your bike...1980 XS650G Special-Two

surgery
I had carpel tunnel surgery back in 83. I remember I had no power in my right to grip things and it always burned like crazy when you moved your thumb and articulated your wrist in one direction. Military doctors refused to believe in carpal; tunnel back then so first they said it was just sprained and did nothing, it got worse and then they gave me cortezone injections. Then the figured I'd broken the wrist so I wore a cast for six weeks. It was still useless and they finally broke down and sent me to a specialist. I knew exactly what it was and performed the surgery a couple days later. He didn't even put me out for it. Talked about what he was doing the whole time and showed me why cortizone shots are such a bad idea. He did what was called an arm block to freeze the arm for the surgery. The whole thing only took about 15 minutes. Anyway, to make a long story shorter, the relief from the symptoms was immediate and the only theropy after was simple to regain the muscle strength I'd lost from lack of use when the wrist was symptomatic. It's never bothered me since.
Good luck.mack

update
just came from the Orthopedist...i have a combination of arthritis and CTS in both hands but primarily the right hand which is worst. Dr. gave me a shot of cortisone for the arthritis and micro surgery for the CTS is scheduled for early June...right after I get back from XSEast...doc says that 1-2 weeks down time after surgery...meaning no motorcycle...
the micro surgery will be done while i'm awake but locally numbed...anestheiolgy is way too expensive...Doc says its a 20 min procedeure in and out..
cortisone has not yet begun to take affect...could be a couple days for that...not really feeling any better as of yet....hey its 4/20 national smoke out day...hmmm a little extra chemo might be necessary...LOL1980 XS650G Special-Two
