    Hey there Greg,

Thanks for the reminder AND the visual....will help my feeble brain cells to categorize the info better....now that I see a MAGNET sticking to the end of the shift fork tangs=iron based!! They are just so light they seemed like they were aluminum....MY BAD! Yeah, pressing the fork tangs against the spinning hardened gears would still wear them down, perhaps not as fast as if they were aluminum, but still will cause considerable wear if done often.

Last fire up before going under the knife. Took a sec to prime (last fire was April)
Cough snort and then that sweet growl. Did install the bars with controls to help headlight choice, as well as our faux cowl cardboard mockup we experimented with. Result? No cowl.

Phil, in removing I saw why these lights screamed to be removed...look close

Last shot in her delivered state, just beyond the honda tank.

I've removed some XS parts, should I display them here or start a new thread in the parts forum?

          Parts thread started.
I love the shop. It belongs to a great friend of mine JD. I call it my zen garden, seems to be missing only koi fish and some of that really cool flute/sitar music

The first wave of ordering has begun. When I first got the bike, I noticed the brake side of the swingarm was bent out significantly, it took a lot of leverage to get the axle back in. The universal boot was shredded. I found a full swingarm with rear, driveshaft, axle and great boot..now on the way.
            Full gasket kit.
4 into 1 that at first glance looks very similar to yoshimura's design.
Also swapping stock levers, perches, and master cylinder to some xvs1100 pull offs- on the way as well.
Besides lights and blade fuse holder, my initial scratch sheet shows a giant circle around "transmission". I'll wait 'till the box of rocks is opened up before I start buying gears, which looks like it could be a few weeks out. Prob toss stainless lines on the pile as well. I'm sure there will be countless other adjustments and changes, mods that she will undergo.

What makes you think it was bent? On a Standard there is some thick spacers that go in there.

This is what should be on the brake side of the rear wheel.

Left to right......brake torque plate, thick spacer, thinner spacer that butts up to the right bearing and fits into the dust seal.

All the right pieces are there. The first signal was that the swingarm on the caliper side didn't line up with the axle hole. Second was the distance between swingarm and mount spacer bearing cap, third, when I finally did get the swingarm flexed enough to line up and insert the axle, the exposed end was recessed. The hole for holding the axle steady while torquing was nearly gone inside the swingarm the same distance of extra space I had on the inside. Quick review told me the swingarm was bent. I was going to true it up during the build, until I found the all in one purchase yesterday.

Don't take offense Matt. I have seen others ruin swing arms because parts were missing or the wrong parts were installed by a PO.

I was just checking. But, I'm sure you know what your doing even though I might not fully agree with your plans for your bike. I'm kind of a purist when it comes to these or any other bikes of their age and reputation.

No offense taken sir apologies if my typed inflection sent that message. My overall feelings regarding the arm are simply general disgust with how people treat equipment. At the shop it's an endless barrage of complacency, over and over. As far as your feelings regarding my choices, please share them. I learned long ago that when a creator gets an idea he is instantly shrouded. Like a horses blinders, he can't logically work through every facet of his idea that plagues his mind. Without input from every source, someone could inadvertently go waaaay off course without noticing.....so yes....I accept all ideas. Thanks man.

Difficult to fathom how,or why, that arm got bent. My entire point.

You understand as you had to tweak it back to get the axle in.

We all looked in awe as well. I imagine someone tried to pry it off the axle instead of unbolting it. First glance showed juuuuuust about enough room to squeeze the axle by, except oops, the rearend is holding the axle. Oh well let's give it to Matt he likes this kind of stuff.

Greg, this is the frustration I have to deal with every day, you've seen this type of complacency over and over I'm sure. Oxygen for breathing should be like drivers licenses....suspended or revoked if abused.

Well, this is actually better. After getting the axle in 2 of us flexed the arm hard then tightened the pinch bolt. When I loosen it it's going to spring back hard
