I finally took my kill switch apart and cleaned it up. A couple of the gurus said it would be rusty and dirty in there and they were correct. I knew it would be that way because of where the info came from.

I have been a member of an archaic email list for the XS650 for as long as I've had a computer. The members of that list who have proven themselves to be worthy technical advisers are given the title, "Uncle", with which they sign their email. Over on the XS650 Garage USA forum those same kind of folks are given "Senior Technical Adviser" under their forum handle. It makes it easy for a newb to figure out who has the proven info. It's not and infallible system, but still helpful.

Here at channel 11, I have some kind of Guru status, because I can't stay away from here and post a lot of cartoons, etc. That hardly qualifies me as a Guru. Trbig has "simply used to post a lot" under his handle, but the reality is he's one of those holding the valuable information and there are quite a few with a lot to offer.

I just thought I'd put that out there for discussion. Please don't take it that I condone muting anyone, because I don't.

The kill switch was one of the first things I did when I got my SG. It had already been bypassed and I HATE things that don't work right.

That's what I'm talking about. You're one of those folks with most of the answers. I know that because I've been here since maybe 2003. But, how would a new visitor know who you are? You're just somebody with over 6,000 posts. What does that mean?

Thanks for your vote of confidence, Marty. I guess I have some mechanical knowledge of these bikes. I'm decent with the stuff that spins, turns, and goes bang, but if it has voltage running through it anywhere, I'm an idiot. So no help from me from your switch.. lol

I guess we're all here on our own time to help people and pass along a little knowledge. The person that helped me most was John Wilmot in Texas. He was pretty dang smart about every aspect of these bikes, and it's a loss to everyone he doesn't post any more.

I'd be on here to help more, but I still have a lot of problems accessing the site and many times, after a long response and I hit the "Submit" button, it just sits there, then I get a screen that says, "XS11 not available".. and I get disgusted and don't come on for a while. Frustrating.

Yeah the status given attached to ones post count hardly qualify one as a "guru"...I can attest to my own ignorance yet I am a " superguru" that hardly knows jack...There are people here that truly are knowledgeable and their post count has nothing to do with it...Funny Tod that you mention John being missed after a number of us vilified his wife..as a result of the dark time( prom's revenge) and she really had nothing to do with it.

But back to the point here... While the post count may not be indicative of ones expertise....the experts make themselves a known quantity when they step up and offer their help...I think those with the real knowledge and willingness to help should be given special titles that identify them as technical experts and not just a generic "guru" title...

Right! Those of us that have been here a long time know Tod doesn't answer electrical questions, but 3Phase does. If a newb acquires an XS11 and comes here looking for answers, how does he know who has them? There's a lot of good stuff archived in the tech tips, but after that, some threads might contain a bit of misinformation.

True, the 'Guru' title can be misleading but still, it shows those active on the site and that is a plus. Lets face it, without active members this would be just another place where nothing of importance to those who love these machines gets done or said.

Having said that, I do not know if I would consider myself a 'Guru' as it says under my handle. There are certainly many, many other members here that know loads more than I but have posted a lot less. You will not find me posting just for the sake of posting as I am the type that says nothing unless I feel I can contribute or help. So when I post here or comment on a thread, it is because I have had some actual experience with the subject and always post with the caveat that it worked (or did not work) for me.

Sure I do! I tell them to not mess with it or they'll let the magic smoke out!

+1. I really didn't want to go there, but yeah, lots and lots of stupid things said and done during those times I think most of us wish never happened. Now in the great words of Forest.. Forest Gump.. "That's all I have to say about that."

Yeah...hindsight is 20-20... As long as we don't lose sight of why we are here then we can still learn and grow from our relationships with each other...good and the not so good...And where were you on the internet when your computer picked up those viruses? Actually don't wanna know

you still have a virus...my computer has one...the virus detection software on my computer doing the scans says it is clean but it isnt finding the virus to start with...the only way to get a virus cleaned off your hard drive is to bring it into a computer shop or else you know a computer guru who could help you out....
