Hi guys--When I joined the forum, I really wasn't looking at the titles of the members. I had a problem with revving issues, and long story short, was offered a lot of advice from a lot of members. All of the help led to a solution to the issue ( stinkin' K&L jets). I do see the advantage that a title might offer in the way of letting people know your expertise, however.
In the time since then, I have asked for and received much help with other issues, and have been helped to fix all problems. This forum is a necessity if you own an XS/XJ. Thanks to all who contribute, and heck, even I've offered advice to some members, and have helped a few nubes along the way. Whether you're a ''Tech Xpert/Guru, or whatever, all advice is appreciated to keep these beauties up and running. Thanks!!

Having belong to MANY bike forums, it's my experience that wisdom & proper knowledge oozes out of many posts on here from those whom have 9 posts, or somewhere close to Nate's. You do see the occasional post from a guy with a join date of 200?, with less than 20 posts, and the advice given is dead-on . I never really pay much attention to the titles, as they're auto-generated by post count, and many other forums still have the open forum areas where threads are anything from this to that. If anything, nominate a Member of the Year for their contribution. There are regulars on here, and others that have lives, lol, that all provide an outstanding knowledge bank of information. KUDOS to every member on here whom has taken as little as five minutes out of their day to help a fellow rider with a question. Pay it forward is the theme of this site.

Exactly my point. I'm not suggesting giving awards. Maybe we should be giving pay checks to the likes of TC and Crazy Steve, if that were the case. That guy that can answer 75% of your questions with 90% accuracy is on here and he's made about six posts in the last seven years. It's not like we could find him and label him Sr Tech Adviser, but we all know it fits Crazy Steve or BA80.

                  Hey Marty,

Due to the self policing of our members and the posts/tech replies, WHEN bad advice has been seen to have been given, others will chime in with a CORRECTION, so I'm actually not too worried about a newbie finding bad advice in OLD threads while searching. However, there is a chance they might encounter some from a relatively new member "trying" to give back to the site and tries to provide some tech info, but might not know all of the variances of the different models/styles, and an experienced member may not have had a chance to review the reply before the newbie ACTS on the new post??

Anyone with experience with FORUMS in general should be able to figure out that someone with a limited # of posts giving advice might not be fully trustworthy/knowledgeable and I would hope they would wait for more than 1 reply before jumping back out and working on their bike? I know folks sometimes are in a HURRY to get their machines fixed, so yes, there's that chance. But as we have prompted on this site, and it's even in the STICKIES at the top of the Tech Forums....they really should take some time and READ thru the tech tips FIRST which will usually keep them out of trouble with the big things that can get damaged if they try to perform service without knowing what to do and what can go wrong...ie. the cam chain tensioner adjustment procedure!

Having a STICKY/LIST of Guru handles of knowledgeable members for folks to refer to sounds like a good idea, but then we run the risk of insulting many of the other new members that are really wanting to get involved and provide help, support the site, give back, etc.!?

And then there'll be newbies that would have read the Guru list, and then dare I say "demand"/request to get tech advice from ONLY let's say 3Phase/Scott for a relatively simple electrical problem that any one of us could answer(even TOD ) just because it says Electrical Expert beside his name on the list???

So, yeah, it's not a perfect system, but I think it works okay.

My attention to this list is inversely proportional to how well my bike runs. Apparently, I missed an ugly bit with people getting on to others, as has happened from time to time. I did wonder why Wildcat had gone silent, but that also happens from time to time.

I will say this: a guy can ask a fairly generic question that might relate to a fairly specific problem and have several good leads in a matter of minutes. I don't know of any other list like that.

Screwing around with my ACCT has led me to having to reset the timing again, but I've done that before. It is funny that TC mentioned that as an example...geez, I hate being sooooo typical.

Oh, and someone PM me if it gets nasty in here again. I don't like to participate, but love watching the fur fly....

All of the interesting and varied responses in this thread prove something that I believe is the cornerstone of this site:

The collective knowledge of everyone here is what drives this site and enables it to help so many people, both new and experienced.

For example, I've seen so many threads where someone will ask a question, a correct/accurate response will be posted, then ......

Several follow-up posts are made by other members to supplement/clarify the original response, and it all helps to pinpoint the exact issue/problem for the asker.

Every response is correct and ultimately leads to the proper solution. And it's usually the "experts" who cut through all the periphery and nail down the issue.

I have learned a few things about the XS11 in my short time here on Channel 11, but the more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know ...

This is a fantastic forum ... one of, if not the best one(s) out there.

As Bne said, "as long as we don't lose sight of why we are here" ... I hope we are all here to help each other, and I hope we all remain teachable ... if we do that, we'll be just fine.

And maybe we can make some good friends along the way, and have some fun, too!!

I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who contributes here ...

And thanks to Marty for starting this thread, and giving us all something to think about ...
