We have had 2 days of freezing rain up here by the beach. Temps in the upper 20s. They shut down the Military bases and schools 2 days ago. Not much chance of riding the 11 in that mess.wingnut

Snow in atlanta
Just went through Atlanta on the way to Baton Rouge and back again...First time was at 2a.m. and all the buildings were lit up...nice...no traffic...return trip on a sunday at 10 a.m. more traffic but it all flowed and we were outta there...love that one building where the top part is all lit up and you see the intricate pattern on light and steel girders...very pretty...but i do recall my very first time riding to GA School f/t deaf and we came thru Atlanta at 5pm on a Fri...that was suicide traffic...nearly 1hour 30 mins to get through the snarl of traffic jammed in every direction...with 2''of snow on the ground I'd stay off any roads around there as long as I could1981 XS1100H Venturer

I'm supposed to be in Houston, TX right now. I'm getting a few extra days at home. Everything out my front door has several inches of frozen white stuff covering it. I can't get anywhere from here.Marty (in Mississippi)

It will be 60+ here in Atlanta by Sat-Sun. Expect to head out to Florida on Fri Feb 7th with Brent as planned.
These big southern winter storms are rare events. Jet stream going 160+ mph over Atlanta bring all that warm Gulf moisture heading N-NE
up over that ground level Arctic air-mass heading S-SE that moved in overnight into Tues morning.
As Mike mentioned the Atlanta traffic event has been a mess. Million cars & semi's on the road in gridlock,
then it starts to snow which melts then it freezes into an Olympic quality ice arena.
Now a FLA Welcome sign with snow, that's something we don't get to see very often.

In further reading about the quaandry in Atlanta...it seems to be a number of complicating factors...poor weather forecasting ...although warnings were out there...poor preparation by the city and state...poor decision making on wether to commute or stay home...and further mass exodus at virtually the same time of day in a panic to get home...finally the weather itself...this is laughable except that people's lives were at risk...so that is no laughing matter...someone's head should be rolling...1980 XS650G Special-Two

5'' of snow on the ground...roads around here are not done...ever...your on your own...the main road to my neighborhood is a 3 mile stretch of a long backroad that will never see a snowplow...same for my neighborhood street. Its exactly the same temp. here in NC as it is in Trenton NJ...13*...going to a balmy 30*...no riding this week...1980 XS650G Special-Two

32 degrees this morning, but rode to work since it's going into the mid 50's this afternoon. Don't be mad though... You guys get to make snow angels and we don't. That's WAY more fun than riding.. right? Umm.. right?Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

Yes. That's right, snow angels!
I rode my bike every day until three weeks ago when I changed jobs. The new commute is 75 miles longer than the old one. I have to admit, it isn't too bad going down the road in a warm car sipping hot coffee when it's 23 degrees outside. I was gaining quite a reputation at the plant where I was working. There are quite a few motorcyclists/bikers there, but only one bike in the lot, no matter the weather. Often there was one Harley dresser, but its owner had to hear a bunch of crap about his electric clothing every time he rode it and that 35 year old Yamaha was in the lot.
My bike needs the break. It was getting that moisture related gray/brown goo in the crankcase. It can't be good.Marty (in Mississippi)
