Looks like the deal will fall through Tod, but yes, I was hoping to find a way to get the bike out there with me, or find one to purchase and ride there till I was done and sell it then.

correction, not spring in GA yet

monday Feb 10,2014 GA govenor declares state of emergency due to winter storm warning (and embarassment over last snow jam). Two women shot at kroger as shoppers stock up

tuesday- schools closed - no snow no freezing.

Wednesday Awoke to Thin layer of ice covering everything. Some limbs breaking in my back yard (imagine loud & long CRAAAack...thud sound), Sleet falling, and Thankfully bouncing off power lines & limbs. over 50,000
GA power customers with no electricity. At my house, about 1/8 inch of ice followed by 1/2 inch of sleet. Bad roads, impassable, Power crews using chains. roads mostly deserted. 1500 flights cancelled at Atlanta airport.

Snowed in. Stranded, but I am home. Cabin fever beginning. PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome) sensitivity increasing. Steady drone of weather reports (mostly the Chicken Little Channel) predicting doom...pictures of ice cycles... It has been a half day already. and temps predicted below freezing for another whole day. I do not know if I can stand it; SO Bad that I am wishing for straight roads, with palm trees, wet or dry.
Winter storm warning here untill 1pm Thursday. After that watch out for thick layer of salt on Interstates from Macon to ATL to Augusta.

Sleet falls most of the day "Thunder sleet" reported. I believe I did hear thunder in the distance twice. About 1 inch of sleet accumulates over ice. South and east of me got more freezing rain. Trees fall. Over 500,000 Ga Power customers loose power, plus over 100,000 EMC power customers loose electric service. GA DOT spreads thousands of pounds of salt, mainly on Interstates.

Thursday early - more freezing rain followed by about 1/2 inch of light fluffy snow. Govenor extends state of emergency through Sunday night.

        More later
It is a great big beautiful world out there

          Winter

Snow/ice melting rapidly today from higher temps and sunshine. Will re - freeze tonight, but even warmer tomorrow. By the weekend, we will have forgotten all about it. Next thing you know, we will be complaining about how hot it is. Looking forward to that.

Last night was single digits, to day is almost 40 deg F, tonight down to 11 deg F. By this time next week it is supposed to be 60 deg F. There is still ice and snow on the ground that has been there for weeks!

Yeah, bring on that to hot weather!! It always feel cooler at 70 MPH with your knees in the breeze.

Here in Colorado, because of elevation changes, you get everything within - say - 100 miles. I-70 closed earlier this week for avalance blasting. Today chain law is in effect for Vail Pass. Temps in 50's - 60's in Denver, nearly 50 in western part of the state. Aspen received nearly 2 feet of snow in last 48 hours. Powderhorn Ski Area, which I can see from my back deck, received more than a foot and a half of snow this week but at my place the snow is melting off the roads and sidewalks.

No freezing sleet or ice...my condolences to those who have had to endure that kind of weather.

Weather related incident: Yesterday a car went off Vail Pass (Over the guard rail) and dropped 120 feet, but landed on 8 feet of accumulated snow. Passengers were injured. It took almost 2 hours to complete the rescue as emergency personel had to rappel down to the car. Story was in today's newspaper. (Glenwood Springs Post-Independent.)

It will not be riding weather for several weeks yet. Good thing I have my ATV, now with heated grips and thumb warmer - Christmas gift from SWMBO.

                  Georgia Snow

Snow in Georgia is usually - no snow in Georgia. But when we do get it, we are unprepared for the most part. The snow that we had this week was less catastrophic than two weeks ago. This time everyone stayed off of the roads.

One of our local TV stations interviewed a visiting Canadian while he was cleaning the snow off of his vehicle. He stated "your snow is sticky due to it not being as cold here". "This makes it more of a problem".

From this, I can only assume that there are different levels of snow "stickiness" throughout the world?

                    Guidance

                    Thanks for guidance regarding winter.
I did turn off the weather channel & read (some motorcycle magazines, already finished reading XS11 Heaven). Ate some comfort food, oyster stew. I held onto the handrail, so when I slipped on icy step, avoided fall, only spilling 1/2 cup of coffee. Shoveled ice & snow from steps. Shoveled sidewalk - clear to garage where bikes are parked. Shoveled driveway. shoveled road in front of mailbox (no mail carrier for days) Shoveled street in front of driveway. Smoked cigars & watched precipitation from garage. Waited for warmer Spring weather. Put automatic battery charger on bike, rotating to other bikes. Put seafoam in fuel tanks of bikes. Winterizing?
This was unusual here. Ice, much sleet and a little snow...Continuous sub freezing temps for 32 hours. I checked partial thaw this morning, slush frozen hard again. This afternoon, temps in 50's. rode XS11 to store.

Thanks for survival guidance. I think I will be OK. Feeling better now.

It is more a level of moisture in the snow Mike. The warmer the temps when it is snowing the more liquid water is trapped in the frozen water that comes down, wetter snow. Wet snow is heavier to move, and if the temps drop after it is down, it freezes the liquid water into ice. This makes it VERY slippery. Wet snow also packs MUCH easier, it sticks to itself easier (there is the stickiness you mentioned).

When it is colder the snow becomes dry, almost like little pellets. The wind will blow it around easier, it shovels much easier, and it does not stick to itself as easily.

Its all an extension of the concept you can have 32 degree water, or 32 degree ice. The latent heat of state change making the difference. And yes, pressure makes a difference as well.

Yeah, temps in Tucson are usually similar to those in Phoenix, and the weather here in the Valley of the Sun has been gorgeous -

projected low to mid 80's the rest of this week, then mid to high 70's for another week after that ... Beautiful
