No, but I will try it.
In the same vein, years ago I read about a method to clean out carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. You took paraffin, and melted it into motor oil, and poured that into the gas tank.
Must have something to do with the oil burning slower and hotter than the gas. Dunno, CZ
When ever I buy fuel for the lawn equipment that won't be used immediately I add Marvel Mystery Oil (4 oz. per 10 gallons), seems to keep the fuel from turning to sludge quite a while. This idea has a lot of merit. High speed, high pressure fuel pumps on fuel injected engines rely on the small bit of lube in gasoline. When alcohol is added, the lube is removed. Would recommend trying this fix. Why didn't I think of it????
Interesting... The only issue I have with the idea is that it was mainly for water-cooled engines. However, the guy did say he uses it in his lawmower too, so I guess it should work. I think I may try it and see how it works. I's a bit lazy when it comes to measuring out additives each time I fill up, but maybe I can find a bottle like what my regular 2-stroke oil comes in that measures itself out by squeezing the bottle into a secondary chamber on top. Might be a good thing to try for the XSEast trip.

Hi Elevener,
use 80/1 stroker mix in 4-cycle engines? WTF not? Like the Doctor's Oath, "First, do no harm."
And what with the state of most XS11s 30 year old oil control rings we are mostly getting that anyway (but only the combustion chambers, not the carbs) except with the engine oil of our choice instead of self-mixing oil.
The only warning bell I hear is the author's insistence that Pennzoil is the only brand that works.
Either any comparable brand will work or he's selling snake oil.

He definitely did not insist that Pennzoil was the only one that works. He actually suggested that Amsoil would be the preferred brand, but said many times that ANY marine 2-cycle oil rated as TC-W3 would work.

"You want TC W3 rating. That is for water cooled marine 2 stroke engines. Valvoline/Pennzoil/SuperTech at Walmart.....your after the TC W3 as it has the add packs/viscosity we were looking for. "

And the mix is more like 500 to 1
Hi Elevener,
guess I only read as far as :-
2 Stroke oil. Not just any two stroke oil But we needed the detergents etc. and found the perfect oil/add packs/viscosity in a marine 2 stroke oil you can get for under $10 bucks a gallon anywhere. We used Pennzoil Marine 2 stroke for our testing.
And yeah, I forgot the pints to gallons conversion factor.
16 x 8 x 5 = 640/1
Alas that my cross street neighbor has just been diagnosed with early signs of senile dementia.

i'm going to add my two cents here.I'm a big fan of 2 strokes i haved owned lots and lots of different dirtbikes and quads that were two strokes. and there is a big difference in viscosity between premix oil and oil injected oil. i can't see pennzoil using the same oil for both, premix oil is alot thicker.i have bought 2 different yamaha blaster quads that had the wrong oil used in them if you use premix oil in a injected motor it wont flow as well and will starve the engine of oil and scar the hell out of the piston. cheap gas station oil plugs up tuned pipes and fouls plugs. i use a semisynthetic yamalube in all my goodies. i have rebuilt both of those quads and never had a problem since. my sons 04 blaster piston was cooked when i bought it it had to be bored out .0020. that was 4 years ago and has been beat since. we pulled the jug off this spring to see if it needed a rering and the cylinder walls and piston looked like brand new. although the yamalube is about 25 bucks a gallon it well worth it in my eyes. i will start running it in my xj. thanks for posting the link.

Just remember this is not just about adding "2-stroke oil" to your fuel. The oil MUST have the TC-W3 rating. It has nothing to do with brand names or viscosity. You're putting such a small amount in, that it is equal to the amount of factory "stuff" that is already in there. I went ahead and did this yesterday, and will try it out for the XSEast Rally.
I usually put 3.2 gallons of fuel in at each fill-up, and after doing the math, that means I need to add just a hair over 4 teaspoons of MARINE 2-cycle oil to each tank. I got a little shot-glass-looking measuring cup with teaspoon marks on it at Walmart, and I'll keep it in my saddlebag with the oil.
I'm assuming that the Yamalube stuff is not TC-W3 rated, so it will not have the properties necessary to do what this guy claims. Of course, if you want to put Yamalube in your gas, I doubt it's going to hurt anything - especially at a 600:1 ratio.

I just picked up a qt of havoline (w/TC-3) at discount auto (about $5) (it was the smallest size I could find)
Today, I filled her up and put a 1oz shotglass amount in. (G tank = 5gal)
I ride every weekday and fill up every other day, so this shouldn't take too long to see some kinda result. (I'll post up something in a few days)
This past weekend I had the carbs off to check the fuel height and I noticed that #1&2 slides were a little sticky, so maybe this stuff might lubricate them a little better than just that crappy ethanol stuff alone.
Just got my first fill up after putting some of this stuff in my tank earlier this week.
Some things I've noticed.
My throttle response is a little crisper and it idles just a little smoother now.
My gas mileage went up a little. (about 1-2 mpg) I am kinda heavy on the throttle, but I was still surprised.
I suppose if I was a little calmer on the gas, I'd get better mpgs.
Friday afternoon will be the end of tank 2.
I'm planning on replacing my valve cover gasket this weekend and checking my valve clearances.
I know they are at or below the min spec, so I'll have to see what shims I can 'borrow' from my SG and hopefully get the rest at the dealer.
Maybe that will increase my performance a little more, so I won't have to give it so much throttle went I want to get up and go!
If I have the time and motivation, I might pull the carbs off and check them out and see if there's any 'oily film' in there from this stuff.
Stay tuned.
