    tires

Trust? No I do not "trust" new tires. (Low air, nail, any road hazard, sharp curb or bad pot hole, rubbing on drive shaft...)
Tires 10 years old (twice the 'use by' date)- even less trustworthy.

I have to agree with the slogan Fast, cheap, reliable...pick two.

Does the "looks like new 10 year old tire" have a flat spot from sitting so long? If so, I would replace it before any serious riding, but use it while test riding, until bike is running or sorted out. & take it slow.

Still, I will admit to running 10 yr old tires that still looked good to me...

These photos #92,93,94,95 are on tires past their prime; a ten year old front Metzler 880 and a well worn Dunlop k491 rear. Thrilling. Grinding hard parts & sliding was perhaps a greater concern than sudden catastrophic tire failure.

I have replaced the rear with Dunlop E3 and am dreaming of an Avon VenomX for the front. Then I will not need to take it quite so slow.

If you ride, you are going to need tires. Plan on it.

    Good luck wrenching & riding

That picture was taken by photoreflect or Squid photo. I am paying a little to buy some that do not say that on the pic. I do not even understand that whole squid thing.

Yeah I'm just bustin on ya Brent... A squid is someone who usually rides sports bikes and does stunts and stupid tricks on their bikes while on public roads...very innappropriate and gives all bikers a bad name.

Squid. a fish Bait. I went fishing with some, dropped it. Squid made a big slimey mess spread out on the pavement.

Squid. someone who usually rides sports bikes and does stunts and stupid tricks on their bikes while on public roads... Wearing shorts & T-shirt.

I think that I see the connection.
XS Thread content - So, when riding XS on 10 year old tires, with 30 year old rubber brakelines, I refrain from stupid stunts, take it slow & easy or wear some protective gear. ("courteous driving" is appropriate; makes traffic flow smoother, and is safer for you too.)

I do not want to be a big slimey mess spread out accross the pavement. Brent a Squid??? That IS so absurd as to be really funny. I hope it always is. Thanks BNE.

If they have been on the bike for ten years then NO WAY. However, there are warehouses that store tires for a specific number of years for performance. I did have a set of new unmounted tires that I had stashed for 5 years. I put them on my bike and ran them for three seasons they still have tread and are in good shape. I changed them out this last season cause I liked the looks of these other ones.
