Which is mildly annoying but I could go do something productive instead, eh?
What really gets to me is the 25% of the time when I painfully use my typing finger to spell out a post and hit the "submit reply" button and then the site bombs out and I lose it all.
WTF, I can Ctrl + c to save the message but I shouldn't have to eff around like that.
Not to sound like an @ss, but there are two problems that happen. The one you are getting is the piece of junk DNS servers that the hosting site has that fail pretty consistently. I've posted the workaround for that as the only other fix for that would be for the owner of the forum to move to another hosting location as the hosting site is clearly not going to fix their DNS servers unless they go down hard. Adding the line to the hosts file will fix that for good. I don't know the cause of the other, but it has something to do with something getting triggered that is seen as a security issue and gets your IP address locked out.

Once I put that line in the host file on my laptop and my desktop computers I never had that particular problem happen again. I've had the site not respond a couple of times, but it's been really few and far between.

Ok I managed to do the changes to the host files. Is there any way for me to check if I did it correctly and if it is working?

There are two things that will point to you having gotten it right, things will work better, and you will be able to access the site at all (if you got it wrong you wouldn't be able to access the site at all).

A couple of days ago I couldn't access the site either, and when I used the Is it down or is it me site, the site was actually shown as down...so sometimes it's just the Host Server! YMMV!

I edited the host file, but have not seen any improvement in performance. Several times today, I tried to click into the site and got a "Page cannot be displayed" error. It only lasted for a minute or so, but that's about all I've ever seen. Just annoying...

I appreciate the potential 'fixes' that have been found. However, the fix should not be something I need to mess with on my end to be able to make a website work as it should. Again, all I'll be doing is tolerating it.

If the hosts fix was done correctly it should have no affect on anything other than XS11.com as it does nothing other than override the DNS entry for xs11.com. I've made the changes on multiple computers without any side effects to ANY other sites at all.

Did you restart your computer after making the changes? Depending on the version of windows, the changes that are made may not be seen until networking is restarted.

Unfortunately while I agree with you and if I were the owner (and I'm sure if TC were it would be the same) something would be in process to deal with the issue. However I (and TC) can't do anything about it, and the hosting site doesn't appear willing to do anything to fix their DNS problem. In most cases if the site down sites report a site down, it can be the DNS for the site that's down rather than the server itself.

I guess That was what I was asking earlier in the thread. I do not know a whole bunch about what I did, other than it read the same as in the example after I restarted and rechecked the hosts file. But my Facebook was the only thing I tried after that and it would not work right. I only tried it on my garage computer which is windows XP home edition. Do I need to do it to all my puters as they run through the same wireless router? Does the wireless router affect it at all? The house puters are windows 7 and be damned if I know what my android is running. Just lucky so far to know how to turn that on so far. I have been able to get on the site 90% of the time since TC got re-instated without the host file fix, so being able to access the site is not that great of an indicator for me. Thanks for any insight you can give here.

I'm not able to get on the site normally at all. I was off all day yesterday and today I finally am bouncing off a server in the Ukrane and it's slow and un dependable.
