Biker's Wave

I wave in the spring and the fall when it's really cold. In the summer when you pass bikes like bugs you'll only get a nod from me. Sorry but it just gets old...I'm a prick.

I wave at pretty much everything but scooters there are way too many around here beings all you need is a helmet to ride one. Also the people on scooters for the most part ride them not because they want to but because they like the sauce a little too much. The hardley riders wave if they are the real deal the ones who don't are the guys who put 100 miles a year on their bikes and think they are bikers.

If it has two wheels, I'll wave or if they're stopped on the side of the road and not having a smoke I'll pull over and check to see if they need help. As I was reading through the threads and some discussion about if HD riders returned the wave, it brought back a memory from long ago. I left Ottawa, on on a friday morning and had to be in Vancouver, BC by Monday morning. I had lots of time as I'd made this same trip and back several times on Hermes. I take the North route and always had a 2 gallon tank of gas to make it between stations. Not much up there but moose and blackfly's. Anyway I was cracking along between Hearst and Geralton I think and I see a bike on the side of the road, so I shut it down and pull over to see if he needs a hand. I stepped off my ride and this guys bent over his harley. I asked if he needed help and he looked up, took one look at the XS and said" $#@K off". I just shook my head, fired up and launched. Every time I wave and I don't get one in return, I think of that proud HD rider stuck in no place feeding the flies.

Brian, HRM has a lot of things commoners don't have and for which they would have no practical use, like Corgis. I want one of Frank's fuel tank tampers; looks like just the ticket for those long runs between gas stations in the Mojave desert!

Brian, HRM has a lot of things commoners don't have and for which they would have no practical use, like Corgis.

Corgi's.... aarrrgghhh. Absolutely hate the obnoxious little bsatards. Sister in law had one for a while. Angry little thing. Didn't dare try to kick it when it was in the way, which was always, would have had my leg chewed off below the knee before contact was made. Was like a pirhana on legs when it came to food.

Yebbut you could keep a few of 'em full of fuel in the saddlebags and just add one to the tank when you need gas!

Waving

Friend of mine was having a particularly bad day, ansolutely nothing went right. To top it off he ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere. Thumbed a ride into town, got a gas can filled, thumbed back to his ride and filled the tank. Of course being so ticked off he made a mess and spilled gas all down his arm. Lighting up a smoke as he pulled away, his sleeve catches on fire. So here he is driving down the road waving his arm to try to put out the flames. Cop pulls him over and gives him a ticket for illegal use of a firearm.

I wave at all bikes and scooters if I can. If I can't wave, I nod. Especially in the winter with my Hippo Hands installed.

The scooters around here are usually above 50cc, so they require all the legal stuff. The ones <50cc require a regular driver license, but not registration. It seems the scooters aren't aware of the rider etiquette, or just aren't paying attention, since they never wave back. I haven't noticed a lack of waving from the Hardleys, except the ones that just seem to not be paying attention. I too will always remember the first wave I got. Made me smile all the way home that day. I just hope my waves make someone's day too every once in a while.

Maybe the Harleys that don't wave are because it's taking both hands to hold on to them cause of all the shaking. They're afraid of they take one hand off the shaking will throw them off the bike, kinda like the bull ride at the cowboy bar. Glad I'm wearing my boots..

I wave to all motorcycles.

Occaisionally in the city here i get the group of kids who's daddy's bought them nice fancy harly's or custom build choppers who shun and do not wave to me and the old war horse. Otherwise everyone gives me a wave.


My PO was in town and drilled it into me that my bike is and always will be named the old war horse. He did put over 135k miles on this thing so I suppose he has the right.

I wave to everyone unless my left hand is busy (you know holding the clutch, running the signals, etc) or I'm riding 2 up. When I ride 2 up I always tell the passenger its their job to wave to all the other bikes.

I don't wave anymore. I used to. If someone waves to me, I will wave back but that's about it.
