Biker's Wave

Around my neck of the woods I give, and get in return, the bike salute to and from riders of all types of non-four-wheeled conveyances.
There are the occasional harley snobs of course buy hey, I can't say I blame them for not wanting to lift a single finger from the grip of a bike that likely cost more than my first house!

I wave ( if safe) to motorcycle, BUT I get a "stink eye look" from Harleys. Just because Im not on a Hardly Dangerous, many will not return the wave. Sporty bikes are more friendly and return the wave.
Most of the time, its where bike pass each other that makes the difference. Back roads that bikes know about and ride for fun and I can get 15 harley bunches all waving the low five the entire time. But ones and twos they tend to shun any non-harley. There is that subculture here.
"Im an amerikun on an amerikun bike and Im better then you!".
Me? Im on two wheels just like they are. I wave. Unless Im hanging on for dear life.

Hardcore Riders Wave

This time of year in the Near North, you may only see 3 or 4 motorcycles in a whole day of riding. They all wave at this time of year. Only the fanatics are out riding already. The posers who don't wave are still sitting in the coffee shops.
I have to give some of those Harley guys their due. They are some of the first ones out in spring and last away in fall. Those guys always wave back.

That's odd cause you can still get a DUI on anything motorized! A liquor sicle around here is a peddle bike, cause that is all that is left at that point, and then you just get public I.intoxication.

When I was living out in Oregon, you could get a DUI for riding a bicycle, no motor required.

Down here in the Carolinas its completely different than Wisc. You wouldnt believe how prevalent these things are around these parts. besides that they never wave anyways... I find most everyone else even hardley riders wave...most of them anyways...Just today i went to the local HD dealer a huge place and when i rode up on my XJ a couple hard core type dudes were looking real closely at my bike..i asked them if they remembered these bikes and they both said yeah. They had one back in the day. They were complimentary of my 29 year old machine and amazed how well its held up. Its always cool to get that kind of reception especially from guys like them. I went and looked at a Harley Road Glide and others in their Full dresser lineup. They looked to be real comfortable on the road...but way out of my league price wise. So I'll wave to just about all real motorcycle riders with the exceptions noted above.

Here in Fort Wayne, if you get the extreme Harley guys, they refuse to wave. I even had one try to race me on his softtail. I whomped on him of course but he couldn't believe a 79 Yamaha beat his 01 fuelie softtail. I get respect from the guys who were in my position when they were younger. But as far as myself, I don't wave at scooters because they are a little concentrated and I try to wave at everyone anyways.

In Ca you can get a DUI in a Car in the driveway with the keys in your pocket and the engine in pieces in the garage, and as I understand, in Az the same, motorized is the the factor in either state, it's that it's a vehicle, you can get a DUI in a bicycle. Public intoxication is walking while drunk .

I'll wave to anything except scooters because around here a scooter is really a liquor sickle. Only drunks...winos and those who cant legally operate a normal vehicle are allowed on the roads with their 50cc or less scooters...They dont need to be registered,insured or licensed and you dont need a driver's license either...What a slap in the face to all of those who have to pay for the privilage. And they are a hazard on the road with their top speed of 30 mph...It amazes me to no end that this state doesnt regulate them at all. In the Northeast these would be illegal

Was watching "COPS" once - a local dude had his license taken away for DWI - thought he could get away with riding his lawnmower down the side walk to and from the local pub.... he got himself another DWI that night.

I wave to everyone except mopeds, they dont ever return a wave anyways or seem to be uncertain about two wheeled etiquette in general. I also have a few rules about waving, I only wave on a 2 lane road when its safe. No waving over rails/medians or across turning lanes... AND, I will stop waving if there are just too many bikes out cuz it becomes a distraction especially in town. If I meet in a corner I might lift a finger or two and usually give a nod at intersections nothing more. I've noticed the Harley guys almost always wave, the only time they dont wave is if I'm riding with my friend that has a dual sport lol.

Most of the time Bikers wave at one another around here. There are those who are snobs. I am not bothered one way or the other - their loss and problem, not mine.

I am from north Dakota, you just wave at everyone, always.

Thats the truth, the only guy up here who doesnt wave (cage or not) is the guy whos only got one arm . I personally wave at anything on two wheels however like everyone else has pointed out the scooter/moped crowd seem too concentrated, as far as the Hardly crowd goes I spend most of my time riding with them.........I think they just havent figured out Im there yet
