  • Finally Some Pics of my $700 Beauty

I paid $700 cash and rode home 20 miles in 27 degrees. One of the biggest damn smiles I've ever had the whole cold ride home. As you can see the tank has a huge dent, the handlebars are a little tweaked and there are a few other little problems but nothing that kept me from getting the bike home the way it should be done.

Only in the pics. The header pipes are pretty rusted. I think I'm going to try to sand the rust off before it penetrates with some high grit paper. I like the stock look but honestly I want something a little louder. I found a guy that runs to all the local swap meets and picks up cheap parts so I'm gonna head to him for some bars and harley mufflers to patch up. I'd like to get a set of vance and hines from someone and chop off my stockers. I heard a set today on youtube and it sounded amazing. I can't seem to find anyone that has exhaust clips of the mac pipes on our bikes. As for the Standard or Special I'm guessing a Standard by the side covers and gauges.

Those are not MAC pipes you have on there. Those are the oem standard exhaust. If they are not rusted through you will want to take good care of them even if it means having.them cleaned and ceramic coated. They are going to be the best pipes you can get and they are rare! Everyone want them cause you get better performance from them with less work.

Or I will give you 100 bucks plus shipping! then you can get whatever you want.

I know they are the stock pipes. I'm wanting to hear what the Mac's sound like but can't seem to find anyone that has them.

Most people don't seem to have much good to say about the MAC exhaust, but its the only US company that still makes something for these.

Offer stands though. I would buy your exhaust.

I'm not sure if I'm going to redo the exhaust or not anyway, but if I do get rid of it I'll keep you in mind.

My special has a 4-1 DG performance exhaust on it but all the chrome has come off need to take them off and thinking of powder coating them.

I take this back. There Is also the Marshall Deeptone exhaust. But I have heard even fewer good things about these.

That's a '80 standard; the dead giveaway is the right side muffler/rear footpeg/brake pedal mount. The '78-80 standard has the pedal shaft through the mount, the special through the frame. This part won't swap with the specials as the frame is different. You do a have a special tank though.

Don't hack up that exhaust unless the mufflers are rotted out; that is the best-performing all-around exhaust you can get. I'm sure somebody would trade you a set of already cut-off headers and some cash for those and be damn happy to get them. And rather than use sandpaper on the pipes, try a stainless steel 'toothbrush' (available at welding supply or HF) with some chrome polish. Takes a bit more time, but does less damage. Yours actually don't look too bad; I think those would clean up nicely.

                        Oh yeah....nice score!

                          Hi Josh,
for $700 you got a great bargain.
Not that it matters but FYI, it's a bit of a Frankenbike.
You'd have to check the frame serial number's letter prefix to be sure but the bike appears to be a Standard with a Special gas tank, headlight and signals swapped in.

Just something to keep in mind on this... Mine has what I'm pretty sure are Fat Boy mufflers on it (they were on it when I bought it). They sound good, but because of the shape, I can't get to the kick stand while on it. I have to get off the bike so I can get my toe far enough up there to snag it.
