I liked the looks but I felt the handling was compromised so I changed to some with slightly more spread.

No argument here SFer. I had standard bars on my SG when I got it and changed them.
The flatter bars give better control without doubt, but being an old fart that like I am I would rather be comfortable. I prefer to sit up and back.
Maybe not the fastest in the tight corners but fast enough.

I think the 79 seat is taller than the later models.Its true about feeling like you are riding an iron board. Might make the bars fit better when higher in the saddle. I know on my XJ they could never work the same because of the lower seat and bigger tank. Heck I even have to look up to see out of the mirrors.Still trying to love it. Not there yet.79SF
