Okay, when I got the photo graphic, the tank/side badges looked like a dark blue/black color. I didn't check the MISC forum model color thread to see what colors were available? I thought there was a blue black, but apparently only a black, or Black-Red( Darker Maroon??) as well as RUBY RED for the 80SG!?

I had an 81SH that was CARDINAL RED, and apparently the blue/black came out in 81 as well!

The BLACK color would be difficult to have it stand out from the FRAME and seat. I don't know what the Black-Red looks like, I've seen the Ruby Red.

So....to keep it TRUE to the YEAR/MODEL color scheme, looks like it should be changed to either Ruby Red or Black-Red...but making it black would be hard to get it to show up without having to put a similar GREY border around it, similar to the seat! And then it looks too DRAB IMHO!?

As for the lettering, we/I used the GOLD for the 78E patch for several reasons, it accented the gold/yellow piping that was in the Macho Maroon paint scheme, GOLD for PRESTIGE being the FIRST 1100 patch, etc.!

However, 25 years anniversary is really SILVER, that combined with the black I think would look very good. Remember, EVERYTHING that is LIGHT GREY would actually be METALLIC SILVER thread to simulate polished aluminum and chrome, and that would make the lettering pop, especially against a moderate dark colored background...or with a black border/edge to the lettering. This could possibly mean more WORK for Ozz with possible color changes!?

I'll play with the BIKE graphic alone to see how it could look in BLACK. Could someone post what the Black-Red color looks like...or is it like the Blue-Black...just BLACK with metalflake hints of red in it????

    T.C.

I am working on the Marron, Black/Red for the bike and a few other backgrounds.

I should have something to post in the next couple of days.

I think on reflection that the thing I am bothered by the most on this patch is that the curve of the patch edge and the curve of the lettering are not the same. This bothers the graphic application developer in me, where the two differing lines of curvature make my eyeballs bounce.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the curved patch, but it would IMHO be far better if the curve of the edge and lettering was the same. (both having compatible curve radii.

I guess not having an 80 anything,

except parts, I don't carry any weight, but I do have my usual opinion which can be a little off the wall.
I would like the Red one to have Gold lettering. To me, patches are different things of color than the motorcycle paint, the color of your cycle clothing, etc. Therefore, I like patches that pop your eye like a 10 megawatt laser. Doesn't nearly everyone think that firetruck are gorgeous with the red background and the gold lettering??

Don't worry about the curves of the patch edges and the lettering. The radius will match, between the lettering, curve of the borders, and curve of the patches.

I don't think we will be able to do a Black and Red Metallic Flake since there is not a thread color available whit that color combination.

I wouldn't worry about the red flake

I can see it but u have to be peering down into the tank. Ozz I think you & TC have done an excellent job. I like the black tank the best of all .It still shows enough detail to identify the bike .Most people only get a glimpse of our bikes as we zip past them anyhow Background color -I like both. The blue is more symbolic of Yamaha & stands out better but the red is a sharp looking patch as well so I would be happy as hell with either patch. I would be happy to own any that you have designed so far but I do prefer black tank. NEXT

I think blue background and yellow print looks great and is true to Yamaha. As for the bike, mine is "black/red" which really means black unless you catch the sun just right. So, I guess I vote for a black bike if it looks ok on the patch. Not maroon, red was a good color the bike came in, blue I think looks good, but not a Yamaha color? Good work guys!
