  • Just get smaller bags JW.

I haven't touched my carbs in over 3 years. The starter clutch is starting to piss me off though. But,still have kick start capabilities.

I would have ridden to work today (70º) but the tags are still out. I most certainly would have been stopped. (Murphy's law)

Somehow I forgot to tag it last year. I rode that crazy thing To Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and North Carolina (crossing Arkansas, Tennessee, and riding around Georgia) last year with EXPIRED TAGS!!!!!

Now I have to pay 2 years taxes and a 1 year late fee..............
Sympathy on dealing with TAX MAN. How much was that late fee? No one I know gets lucky with the tax collector. Pay now, pay more later, or both.

            you did get lucky on no expred tag ticket;

            Also
South Carolina, where you broke your saddlebag lid hinge; no ticket...
North Carolina, near Cashiers; Where you left it parked on the side of the road, while you went to Ashville to stay with some nurses,; (A really GOOD call on your part at the time.) ... No towing fees. Tod rode it to Fire station to properly park it while the NC State Patrol followed him and brought him back to get his bike. Again, no ticket...

Spring time is coming soon. Are you and one of your bikes ready?
            Have fun & be Lucky.

Back on topic. Maintenance. Changed oil & filter. That Beautiful golden brown clean thick oil looks much better. More fun to ride bike, knowing I am not hurting engine.

Yes , I didn't get enough snow off roof before the "ice storm" and couldn't get the door open to get the bike out just too much ice . I am just hoping nothing else is bent.

                  • "jumping cables"

Rode HD to store for groceries last night. As I was coming out with cart, A man asked me for some help, if I had "Jumping cables", explaining that his car would not start - battery low. Well Yes...I had some small short jumper cables from a motorcycle store...Started my bike, pulled up close, hooked up cables, waited about 5-10 seconds...and, SUV started. "Excellent! Thank you very much."

                    They worked.

OH! So sorry to seen winter weather damage to bikes. It is fixable.

                    • Jusdiscovered wife and son were going to surprise me and have my E worked on as a birthday present. Nipped that in the bud.
Wife just wants it for her to ride. That would kill my day off maintaining it for her.
That's why both bikes are (still) for sale. Too bad the only people interested are on the east coast.
I want to ride. Want the wife to ride too. These bikes just take more attention than I have time for. Gas-n-go, self-adjusting, maintenance-free.

                        Hi Pat,
coulda been worse, they coulda planned to swap them for a new dining room suite.
Alas that if you could afford to buy dull and boring gas-n-go, self-adjusting, maintenance-free bikes (his'n'hers superscooters?) you could afford to pay someone to fix the neat and interesting bikes you already have.

                        • There are a select few people who can sort these out. I've farmed some out in the past with moderate success. Once sorted, all you have to do is ride once in a while. Mine is forced to sit, sometimes over a month, and it still fires instantly. Even a new bike will require servicing. The XS1100 was made to last! Sort it out and ride!

                          • people fear the "unknown" if they have never torn down these bikes..

i was one of them, now i fix other peoples to earn parts money for my
                            machines..

it's all about what you have:

                            do you have time?

                            Do you have money?

usually one or the other, but rarely both.
so a person with time goes the "cheap" route are repairs the "good" bike.

a person with money needs a machine that is ready to go for the little bit
of time they have to ride.

i'm not condoning or condeming, i understand both points of view.

i am of the "have time" perswation, and use it with evil creativity

which brings us back to the bike today topic:

i have my customized (lathe trimmed) xs1100 front axel bolt.
that now slides into my seca forks.

inserts into seca forks and is correct size for xs11 front rim bearings.
                            (insert evil laugh here)

                            • Well, I pulled the carbs apart figuring I would find the issue to me poor running and the carbs looked spotless inside...

I do know there are other issues though with the bike. Last fall before I parked it for winter I just started having a problem that seemed like the pickup coils but it was not the pickups. It would idle fine but then when I put it in gear it would start to act like it was missing.

Hmmmm, I should have started working on this earlier in the winter......
