Vin is on the right side of the headstock. Difficult to see on the pics how the rear brake lever is operating. If it is pivoting through a black framemounted tube sticking through a hole in the alu plate it is a Special SF frame, if it is pivoting in the alu plate itself it must be a standard frame (I guess). All the rest seems to be SF except for the Standard clocks. Even looks like a 16 inch rear wheel to me (SF)

As for the rear brake lever, it attaches to a gear coming out of a plate. I guess I would need to remove the pedal to see what's around that gear.
And what's "the Standard Clocks"??
Thanks for the help.- 1979 XS1100SF Special Hybrid

Spandard??
I think by "clocks" he meant the gauges: square for standards and round for specials.
The 2H7 is a standard frame.
3H3 is f'shizzle a special motor.
Frankenbike???! Naw. I wouldn't call your bike that. It looks well done no matter what pieces/parts were from which model or year.
All that matters is that ya gotta hang on tight when twisting that throttle grip.

Ok then, that clears it all up. The info is listed on the FAQ tab, then click #4 Serial numbers/ Mod.....
The frame and engine number should match.
It looks like you have a 79sf xs11 special motor ( and just about everything else) With a 78 xs11 e standard frame (and gauges)
The tail light looks like it's from a Maxim?79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)
80 XS850 Special (Old Faithful)
80 XS11 Standard sorta stock (Beatrice)
79 DT 100

now you found the frame # you know what the tube the steering turns in is called, eh?
And clocks is standard slang for gauges. Note that your Special tank leaves the factory with a thermistor type fuel gauge sender in it that won't work with the fuel gauge in the Standard's rectangular tachometer.Fred Hill, S'toon
