Yamaha paint codes

If found that the burgandy color used on the early 90s Caravans is a close match to the 78E Macho Maroon. My tanks, cowling and side covers are painted that color. My seat trim is original and there's only a slight difference.

I though someone on the list had already researched this.

I found a matching color.

You probably won't believe it but the: "DARK TOREADOR RED" from Ford, late 1990's matches very well and is inexpensive too. You can still get touch up bottles and spray cans at the auto parts store.
I tried it on a test piece of metal and found it difficult to tell the difference.

Motorcycle Paint Codes...but only for 1986 and newer cycles - sorry I just thought to recheck - I used it to find paint colors for an R1 for someone...

When I was doing Hermes, I wanted it back to the original. What I did was take the tank and side cover emblems off and had the unexposed paint scanned. I was worried about the amount of gold fleck in the black to be the same. I should have had the formula written down. I"ll see if I can track it down and post it. Not sure how I'm going to tackle the LH yet. There was a clear decal on the inside face of the exhaust pipe. Under it the paint was pristene so that,s the balck I'm going with. The gold is still causing me heartburn. Has anyone got a link for the nebula gold?

The pipes are not painted - they are black chrome. Matching the color of the pipes won't do any good for the paint codes. The paint code for New Yamaha Black is in post #10 of this thread. That's the correct color for the MNS paint.

Yep, they are black chrome, however I'm supporting 7 on my pension. Black chrome is out of my ballpark. Black ceramic paint is what they're going to get. Color and gloss same as what was under the sticker.

How many cans of spray paint is needed for the special tank. $33 a can is high for the Yamaha 006g but I want to order some.

Hi Bill,
if you mean a can of paint for your own spray gun the smallest can they sell is the one pint size.
I painted my XS11SG's Standard tank, both side panels AND a sidecar with that amount of paint. Note that I used a 2-part paint so add another pint of extender/hardener to the pigment amount.
If you are talking custom-color rattlecans, look at using a Preval unit instead

Great idea. I have a couple of Preval units that I bought long time ago. I hope they still have pressure. I wonder how long they last on the shelf?
