      With 10 hp.

He ain't gonna set any speed records. He probably has to sit on that thing 10 or 12 hours to go 140 miles. A bicycle could get there faster. And a single cylinder must vibrate like a jack hammer. It's basically a novelty.

The ONE thing you forget about the the torque diesel will develop. If it's geared properly, it will probably hit 65mph easily! Remember, the early VW beetle was only 36HP!

DiverRay is right. A diesel engine produces lots of torque not hp. For example the Chevy Duramax diesel makes 365hp @ 3200 rpm and 660 ft lbs of torque @ 1600rpm. Plus, the Rebel is an beginner level 250cc bike that is not really made for highway use (although it is highway legal). I believe that they are used in a lot of the rider training courses. The Rebel only produces 16.1HP, 12.4ft/lbs from the factory (1996 #s).

The downside to deisel is that the redline is lower then a gas engine. I imagine that bikes pulls good for a Rebel off the line but doesn't have the top speed like a normal Rebel, unless his transmission is that good. The 250cc class bikes really depend on having a good gear ratios.

None the less, I like it. It's way cooler then a moped.
