Abandoned Kat

Someone dumped a kitten off around our office / warehouse and I couldn't leave it there to die. Why do people do that? Poor little thing looks to be perhaps 5 or 6 weeks old and is dirty, scared and likely hungry and thirsty. It was hunkered down under the overhang at ground level of the building next door. Looks like a new addition to the household.

'Cause they figure some dummy will pick them up, put them in a cage, and take them home. Beats the old days when they'd put 'em in a gunny sack and take 'em for a swim..

Some people might give it some food and water to find out.. Just a suggestion though.. lol.

Looks pretty wild at the moment. I think you should stick your hand in there and let it scratch and chew on your little finger for a while. Might not be so hungry after that?? Might be a reason Bob Barker says, "Spay or neuter your pets!!"

Hi Rob,
whitefaced 2-tone grey tabby, right? You are not the only pushover on this list. Let me quote my dear wife:-
"There's a cat where I work that was brought in to catch mice, can I bring it home just for the long weekend?"
Friday night in comes the cat c/w $50 of cat-related goodies.
Seems like "the long weekend" is 5 years and counting.
BTW if the Salt tanks on your profile are saltwater tropical fish tanks, keep the lids on.
Kittens love to go fishing.

Reminds me of the pile of rabbits we had once... We had 27 bunnies running loose in the back yard. We ended up taking them all to the dry riverbed and letting them go. I bet the coyotes and hawks had a field day that afternoon! With the number of homeless people living in there, they might even have ended up as people food for all I know.

John always gets this strange look on his face when he knows I've seen an animal in distress... Not sure why...
Although, it could have something to do with the birds, frogs, cats, etc that have lived with us throughout the years...
(just until they get well, Honey... really)

Yea it's got food and water but I am not sticking my have in there. It is ether very scared or wild. It hiss's as soon as anyone walks by the cage. It will stay in the cage until cleared by the vet then it's one day at a time I guess.

Well, My Daughter has been by so you know what that means. She even offered to cover 1/2 the medical bills :-)

There was a wild "kat" issue back at my old place. The only way to catch one was to wait until they were asleep and grab them. One bit me so my reflex ended up launching it about 30 feet. I tried to tame three more of them, of which the smallest one turned somewhat normal and lives with my wife's brother. The rest of them were just wild as hell, like a Tasmanian devil in a cage. The story can be read two different ways. I found that if it doesn't stop hissing after a few hours, it's probably too wild.

That young, it shouldn't take it too long to figure out it is safe with you. My wife found one in a parking lot like that. Very wild at first. Took it a day or two before it was sleeping with us.

Cats are pretty adaptable..

There was a lady around here who ran an illegal kitty farm (Bengal cats), and died of cancer a couple of years ago. A rescue outfit put an ad in the paper for people to adopt them.

When I went to look there were two left, one a beautiful tan and brown striped Bengal, the other a little black Bengal with almost no hair. I asked how old the small one was and they said 7 months. My girlfriend thought I should adopt the pretty one but I felt sorry for the scrawny black kitten.

I thought about it for 2 days, then went back to get the black one, 'cause I didn't think it had much of a chance at getting adopted. They went to get the paperwork and I checked the cat out, it had adult teeth...no way it was a kitten, and I told them so. They looked again at the paperwork and it was for another cat, the one I was looking at was 2 1/2 years old (but only 7 lbs). It had been raised in a cage all it's life and would not allow itself to be picked up. Just went into total panic. The hair was all gone because of stress.

I adopted it anyway, and it's the coolest cat ever, all it's hair grew back..still doesn't like to be picked up, but you can't sit down for 10 minutes without the cat begging to get it's belly rubbed, or sitting on your lap. It fetches like a dog, and will drive you crazy begging you to play fetch.

The cat spent the first several days at my house on the closet, in a box...the world out there was just too big for it. But it finally made it's way out, and now will even peek out the front door when I open it.

Just love your cat, treat it right and it'll be fine.

A good diet, some clean water, A clean cat box and a gentle voice will have that kitten in your heart in no time..

Deb thinks 6 weeks. Still has the "baby blue" eyes.

I've been married to a cat person now headed for 30 years and we have rescued cats for all of those years. In all that time we only had two that had behavior that didn't settle down.

While vacationing in Guaymas Mexico baack in 1980 I saw this cat thhat was living in the wild...but one look at it told me it was a cat that someone had bred. It was a Birman but its markings were wrong for the breed...so the breeder just turned it loose...The cat would come by my rented cottage but wouldn't get too close...he was hunting mice and birds and othr rodents...I got one of those cage traps and baited it with some food...left it on the porch one nite...next morning I had a cat. He was very intelligent but would not allow me to pick him up and hold him...I brought him back to my home in Tucson, and within a few weeks he had adapted to domestic life and became a very loyal and loving cat.The 1st week I had him he hid under the bed not eating or drinking...so I had to gently coax him out from under the bed...talking to him and petting him pretty soon he came out and man he was hungry..after that it just got progressively better...I had him 15 years...oh and I had to stop letting him outdoors because he would come back with half eaten rabbitts and left the rest for me...LOLWhen I originally got him he was close to a year old ...so this little kitten in a cage should not take long to adjust to domestic life...all it takes is someone who cares and is sensitive enough to the critter. Cats are very adaptable especially at a very young age. Good luck with it.

SWMBO and I have taken in several cats over the years, 5 still live with us. Lots of love and patients, they'll be your best friend in no time.
