Was anyone going up the pig trail on the 6th of this month? I seemed to have passed a XS going the other way it was about 6:23 or so....haha.
That would just go to show how lame you are at attempting to keep Okies (and Kansas people) out of Arkansas! Sounds like just about the time Russ and I were riding through there heading back to Eureka Springs.

If it was an XS, it was Russ. If it was a black XJ blur.. it was me!

I know you're pretty new.. so I'll forgive you.. but most people on here realize I am very rarely serious. Re-read my post and imagine a smart-azz saying it joking.. and you'll understand me a lot better!

I was just commenting about his statement of trying to keep Okies out. We've never actually met, but deep down, we're really in love, we just haven't announced it on the forum yet. But he still doesn't get my Bud Light.

People on here tend to crack on each other in good nature.. get used to it.. or stay confused a lot. lol.

Heres new pictures of the bike.

Changed the oil and filter today.

Removed the header and exhaust and scrubbed it good with a SOS pad.

Repainted the motor/middledrive with new hight heat low gloss paint.

Installed new clutch handle and 1'' up and back handlebar risers.

Andy, welcome to the site, and get that rear brake fixed!!!

All the visual cues suggest that you have a '78 or '79, not a '80. The sidecovers, seat, and the fact that you have the kickstarter all point to that. The kickstarter wasn't mounted on the motor, but was fitted as an 'emergency' item and installed on a bracket under the toolbox/battery. It just 'snaps' on when you want to use it. A few more easy things to check: both sidecovers attach with slotted tabs (the newer bikes have round pegs on one side or sometimes both sides) and the ignition module is mounted on the rear fender under the seat tail (the '80-up bikes have this under the tank I think). Of course, this could be a 'Frankenbike' (and there's lot of those out there) put together out of several bikes. At least you have the hard-to-find left side cover!

And yeah, the kickstarter came in handy on mine a few times, but you better have some 'heft' if you use it!

Thanks for the welcome. Ive been here about a month or two but I did go back to a dead thread to post new pictures instead of posting new ones.

The bike is a 80 according to the vin. It just has a older motor on it.

The ignition is on the rear fender. The left side cover has both slotted and straight holes but uses the round ones, and the slotted on the right.

My 80G (matched by VIN and reg) has the ignition module on the rear fender under the seat. And yes it's an 80 with an 80 engine (no kick start).

lol yes actually I used them.
                        Not by choice.
The oil filter bolt rounded off. I used an extractor to get it out and back in until it was tight enough the bit came off. Then snugged it up w/ the vice grips. I know this isn't correct but that is what I did.

I am buying another one from someone so I can replace it next time I check the oil

Take your old one to a welding shop and have them weld on a larger size nut, right over the rounded-off bit. I now use a 19mm wrench to remove my oil filter bolts. I don't know what those engineers at Yamaha were thinking when they designed that rinky-dink 12mm setup.

                              Hi Ken,
betcha it was the same genius that put self-destructing 6mm socket holes in the middle & rear drive filler plugs. I brazed 12mm a/f nuts on top of mine after I finally got the bastards out.
