As far as an animal finding a "safe" place to hide, a clasmate of mine in high school had a raccoon crawl into his Dad's fireplace and die. You couldn't get the flue open to have it drop out, and it was a little too "degraded" retrieve out the top They went and stayed with the grandparents until they could get the lingering aura to fade. They seriously considered bricking up the fireplace and filling it with dirt.
I have an indoor BBQ built into my kitchen. However, I am the third owner of the house, and it has NEVER been used. I had an issue last summer with houseflies invading the kitchen, and could not figure out where they were coming from. Here in MO, we don't have a lot of houseflies, so it was quite a shock to see so many in the house. Turns out, a squirrel had died in the chimney, just above the flue. There's a ledge inside that allows the furnace to vent up the same chimney, and it died right there on the ledge. I had to un-bolt the frame of the flue and remove it so I could get my body up in there far enough to scoop up the stiff squirrel. I'm just glad the chimney wasn't covered in 60 years of BBQ soot!!

      BB's vs. Pellets

You are right Cy, pellets have better killing ablity. You said what I wanted in a better and clearer way. The problem of overpenitration with no shocking power is one we have with steel shot on waterfowl.

I don't know if you know much about simunition rounds but we used them in Law Enforcement tactical training. The are a non-lethal round, pretty much like a paintball but they will put a heck of a welt on you. The projectile is made of wax or something and has paint in it. It fits into the normal brass for a 9mm or .38 and you would fire it out of a real gun.

One issue is, if you fire it, it's also going to sound like you are firing a real gun. I don't believe they are packed with as much powder but still. You may end up with the police showing up.
