Thanks 3phase and the rest for setting this all up. Called the KOA, and of course she relayed the bad experience story to me, so I knowed I was was in the right group. She comfirmed the space being reserved for several. Seemed like very friendly folks, and being individually operated and owned, they seemed pretty kickedback folks running there operation. I'll let you all know if something changes the plans, but for now figure on me tagging along with Jerry for the ride there and back.........Thanks, Brant.

I think the operative term here is "ex."
I look forward to seeing you Scott!
Special EdOld bikers never die, they're just out of sight!
My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
I've been riding since 1959.

Brant, welcome aboard!
Guys, should we throw in and buy Kat a plane ticket?
And do we now have to get an XSive picture by the Big Sur (Bixby?) bridge? That is quite a ways north, but what the hell?
Or will rugged coastal surf do the job?"Time is the greatest teacher; unfortunately, it kills all of its students."

Coastal surf vote
I vote for the coastal surf, if closer. The time is somewhat limited for long rides to wherever and back. However, I guess when everyone puts their minds together we will figure out the best. Or just leave it up to the man, LoHo. I know virtually nothing about that part of the state, so..........whatever, but coastal surf and a nice cold one at a local spot, sounds good after the school year from hell. Photo op's
‘Course Monterey is getting close to Ray’s and my home turf. Ray and I had thought of getting Jerry to ride up with us after the meet to spend a day or two around Santa Cruz. How about Morrow Bay? A big Friggin’ rock in the water might be a decent background for a group shot.
. I will be armed with a very good 35mm film camera, and a 10 meg digital w tripod. I know it conflicts with riding, but it would be nice to get some good group and individual photos. I’m sure there will be numerous vineyard photo ops down there in wine country.
Oops, SWMBO just got home: Gotta run.

Guys, I would really like to spend a couple more days riding with you, but SWMBO has plans for a Prince Edward Island / Maine trip this fall, and I need to keep some vacation hours in reserver for that. Also have plans to get to Portland, Oregon to visit my daughter this summer. This limits the time I have for this ride. Thanks for the offer, I would really like to ride more of California, as it my 'native' state; I was born in Mt. Shasta.
As for photos, I like stopping for photo ops. I carry a tripod and point-and-shoot digital, fits handily into my riding gear. One of the reasons I travel solo much of the time is that I can pul over anytime for a shot. I try to plan my trips to have a day before or after to re-visit spots the group may have passed that I thought might make a good shot. This year the return trip does not start until Monday morning, figure Sunday to ride some more or re-visit such places.Jerry Fields

One photo op we could make would be highway 46 East of Paso Robles. I believe there is a marker there. That is the spot James Dean died while on his way to Monterey for an Auto race. 4 is a strait road, but I think there is a second road we could return on.

Well... It looks like I'll be busy with the flute choir that weekend anyway... I've been invited to play with the professionals on a CD... and that's just as good as a rally... right? RIGHT?

I'm excited
Hey all,
I'm new to the site but have been riding since I was 18 and I'm 25 now. You can do the math . I was posting about my 79 XS11s and Ray noticed I'm from San Luis Obispo and let me know about this rally. I'm pretty excited about it and would love to attend, I just have to clear it with the old lady.
Ray was telling me that the KOA will be homebase for the trip but any ideas on the rides that you are planning in the area? Are you looking to go as far north as Yosemite? Riding HWY 1 is always fanstastic. If you're looking for some local stretches of road, I know a few good ones in the area._____________________________________________

Welcome aboard! My ride is also a '79 Special. I'm sure we would all be open to suggestions for interesting, fun rides.
I look forward to meeting a new brother of XS!
