    SoCal Riders

Ralph, Mike? 8Spade? Bobber? We probably should be getting the route figured out now!

Go inland over the Grapevine to the 5 and meet 8Spade and Bobber at the lake?

Go up the 101 along the coast to meet Bobber, then on to San Luis Obispo to hook up with 8Spade and ride out to the lake?

    Regards,

      Downs and Ups

Jerry: bummer, dude! Hope you heal enough to make it!
Matt (AKA DragXS11) alright! It will be great to see you again.

I sure hope nothing comes up at the last minute to keep me from coming. This is shaping up to be a really nice rally.
      Special Ed
Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
      I've been riding since 1959.

It's been awhile since I slept in a tent. Dunno if I'm looking forward to it or not. But I couldn't get popps to take a couple days off work so we could have the motor home(he's living in it). Ray's motel 6 had a room for only Friday night, and all the rest seem to be full as well. I guess maybe it'll add an element of adventure to the whole thing. Might even get to hear Ed snore

Matt, Ed would be NOTHING compared to me! I have friends that will sleep on the floor in a closet to try and get away from my noise! I don't know HOW SHMBO puts up with it, but I don't ask
It will be great to see everyone again, and the "new" guys! and yeah, I was off about the road number. CRS from getting older, I think.

Special Ed has a "local" snore. Ray has the "regional" variety...

              Ray, what is SWMBO's name?

              Mike, what is BIL's name?

8Spade and Bobber, what shall we call you guys?

                The ride up

If you guys in San Diego have decided to ride up on Friday (rather than your previous conjecture about motel-ing it somewhere enroute Thursday night), I suggest you come up the 405 from the 5 to pick up SWMBO & I. We can continue up the 405 'til just past LAX then drop down to the PCH and ride the coast up into Ventura County where we catch the 101 as far as the 154.
Then we take the 154 over the pass to rejoin the 101 and continue on to our various destinations.

It's a fairly cool ride until you turn inland.

I also have scanned the article from RoadRunner magazine with the four (count'em, four) loop rides centered out of Paso Robles (which is just a few klicks away from Santa Margarita). The article includes tank bag maps. All of them look interesting. I don't think all four can be done in a two-day weekend, but we could certainly discuss and develop, hopefully, a consensus about them.

It's a big file (7.5 MB), so if you want to see it, contact me off list and I'll send it to you (REFFI@aol.com).

I'm really looking forward to seeing you guys again.

                Ralph

                  Setting Priorities

                  Matt-
I am not a big camping fanatic. I set up a tent on an average of once every 2 years, so I completely sympathize. But when you think about it, when you rent a motel room, all you are paying a premium for is a place to sleep. With a motor home you are paying a premium for fuel. I’d rather sleep in a tent and spend that money on good Scotch. Of course others may have other priorities.

Is there any way I'll be able to plug in some chargers(phone, ipod, etc.)? I can hardly stand to ride without tunes anymore. I also might like to be able to run the electric air pump for my mattress. Not sure I'll be able to get it in the tent after it's inflaited tho Maybe I'll try here in the next few days.

There should be some electricity around somewhere but probably not directly at the group campsite because its for tent camping. I do carry an inverter in my bike's fairing. If you need it, I can hook it up to your bike for you and you can kill your own battery recharging the toys.

Do any of you coastal boys know the road between Nacimiento and Lucia? On my map it looks like a dirt road over the coast range, which seems a little excessive even for XSives.
