  • Cincinnati Area Owners

The days are getting shorter, and soon our babies will be settled in for their long winter nap. In the mean time, the leaves are starting to change color and mother nature is getting ready to do her annual fashion show here in southern ohio.

The Lorax and I were discussing a get together with area owners for a nice long drive in the country. The Lorax assures me that the leaves will change color, and who better to know - after all, he does speak for the trees .

If your interested I'll need a little information in order to coordinate. If you will PM me with the following information I'll attempt to organize the outing. First I need to know where everyone is located in order to select a starting/stopping point that is as close to equadistant from everyone as possible. Second I need to know when your schedules are open. This will most likely be a saturday or sunday affair, so let me know what weekends are good in the month of October. We should probably select a primary date, and a secondary in case the weather doesn't cooperate.

I'm thinking a jaunt of 200 miles or so would be a nice day's ride. If we depart around 10:00 a.m. and arrive back around 3:00-4:00 it should insure that we have the sun pretty much overhead the whole time. I don't know about you folks, but riding into a bright fireball always seems to detract from the experience for me.

Let me know what you all think, and lets go see if a pack of 11's can rumble the leaves off the trees. Anyone else who's interested and will be in the area is surely welcome - the more the merrier.

I would absolutely LOVE to participate in thins, unfortunately my 11 isn't up to the task at this point. However, I will definitely be keeping any eye on the boards and should we happen to have a spring ride, you can count me there.

If you don't own a fire extinguisher, do me a personal favor and go purchase one... immediately.

Varnae - What's wrong with your bike? Need help?

I'll add your name to the list. I'd like to get a regular e-mail list together for the local folks, so if you want to be included please pm me your regular e-mail. Anybody else who's interested in doing some group rides - this means you too. It's just easier for me to maintain lists in windows mail as opposed to the pm area.

Well, you already know I'm down with the sickness brother, I can usually find someone to watch the 6 year old if the need persists, I'll make sure to drop the cell phone in a bucket of water before I leave, should get me some peace and quiet....er noise...er un-interupted exhaust rumblin through the hills let me know what dates your thinking and I'll make the arrangements and clear the calendar. all I got have a nice day and ride safe

P.S. Varnae, If you have some issues, I know I would be willing to lend a hand, doug appears to feel the same way, if it's just cosmetic stuff, forget about it and come ahead, it can't look any worse than mine does...think set on fire and rolled down a hill peace, out

Cinci? Ever hear of a band called "Heavy Weather" ? Friends of mine. Stayed there in Cinci a few times on some old couch when we played down there. Cant remember the name of the bar.

Edit: Just remembered also did some bar called mama einstiens in Athens. I'll never forget this cute girl at mcdonalds somewhere in mid ohio, I asked how much further until Athens, she thought about it for a sec and said "there are a lot of places in Ohio, but I dont know that one" she was so dam cute we all laughed and just kept rolling.

Hey Doug, just a thought, you might put a post of some sort in the Rallies forum, that way, if anyone is just out of the area and feels like an impromptu ride in the country, they might wish to join us...the more the merrier I say. have a nice day and ide safe

Matt - Good thinkin'. I'll nail down the route this weekend, and then put a post up with the details.

Looks like October 26th is shaping up as the date. Steppenwolf (Bill) is looking at the route, and I have to tell you, he's got some pretty good plans for a nice ride. Might even include a jump across the mighty ohio on a ferry - how cool is that.

In an effort to recruit more riders, Bill has set up an area on Riding Across USA Forum , so we want to use that resource for coordination and planning. Although he has some responsibilities that could conflict with the date, he has tentatively agreed to handle the route planning, and to take the lead, making him the group captain. Bill is a retired truck driver, so when it comes to route planning I'm sure we're in great hands - nothing like having a professional handle the job. Please join me in a big 'Thanks, Bill.'

We could wind up with a pretty decent sized group. It looks like 6 riders are pretty committed already, but I expect that number to go up. As this will be a formation ride, expect things to procede at a relaxed pace. Won't be any foot-peg dragging going on, but will be some great scenery and some interesting points along the way. Might not be a bad idea to review and familiarize yourselves with the principles and signals for formation riding - want to keep things safe.

My last long ride included two ferry rides! From downtown I rode West to Anderson Ferry and crossed into KY. From there I rode Route 8 all the way to Augusta and hopped the ferry back over to OH, then hit some back roads to get back to the east side. It was quite a ride, Route 8 in the Fall probably has a nice view. Also, there is a nice watering hole up in Ripley called Snappers, just a few miles up the road from the ferry.
I know this, because Tyler knows this.

Going out tomorrow morning to make sure some of the roads are in good shape,no detours or gravel thrown about and check out a possible reroute,no big deal, just a little more scenic way, haven't been on it in years but still the same basic route...looks to be about seven of us,I wanna take some pics of the bikes..

Holloween hit my bike with a vengance........
So we are looking good so far for the first SWOXS Rally..like that name:-)
If this comes off well I have a few ideas for future rides to toss around.
                        Coments.........

                          good route

That will be a beautiful ride .Rte50 from chillicothe to athens is really beautiful. You should add it into one of your trips sometime. If you're coming back to route 50 from the Hocking Hills via 327 be aware that there's one really sharp curve shortly after you leave Adelphia .It's usually covered w/ gravel from a hidden drive.Have fun!

QR, yeah RT 50 has some nice areas, just came back from Hocking Hills two weeks ago and picked up RT 28 just west of Chillicothe..nice bike road.
Like a woman with no reason or acountability here is the ride I suggest, just made most of it today.
Meet@ Frisches in New Richmond at 10:30,gassed and ready to go,Speedway and Sunoco just down the street, short ride to Point Pleasant (5 miles),Grant's birth place, museum will not be open, good place for a view of the OH river,Meldhal Dam if you want to,observation tower blocked off and the the ferry at Utopia to Augusta and RT8 east to Maysville KY to the flood walls, cross back to OH on RT 52.stop at Ripley and see the Rankin house

                            then
west to Higginsport and RT505( easy to miss, but a fun road) to RT 756,left turn and be careful, lots of gravel in the middle of the road on the turn,to Felicity where we would pick up RT 222 north to RT 50 west to Perrintown at the UDF and gas stop to get home and for our group hug
It is a good ride and I suggest we make our stops short, lots of pics,so we can all get home at a reasonable time especially those who are coming some distance to get here.
So if this sounds good..we have a plan..easy ride and on good roads.

                            Bill
