My airbox is stock and I have no stumbles

Based on the fact this poll exists I assume my airbox should stay stock

      Hi TC,

This poll is not really for me, is it? I have no stumbles, and the Dyno sheets read over 90bhp at the wheel......

I don't see how it helps Pete, 'cos he doesn't have XS carbs either! ??

          hi guys
          thanx heaps TC,
          thats great,
i still couldnt figure it out. :-)

AlanB, vote with the 78/79 carbs, these are fitted with the fuel
          vent hoses.

Im just curious if the stumble occures more so with vented carbs compared to the non vented carbs fitted with pod filters.

my 81 had pods and i had no problems.

ernie, if ur box is standard, im not 2 concerned about these,
just carbs fitted with pods/air box mods.

I've got 78/79 carbs with stock air box and I do have an off idle stumble. Well its not really a stumble as much as a lack of power.

Hard to tell in a pic how deep the cracks run.

Pods, 4-1's and no stumble. Its all in the jetting and tuning.

I have '80 carbs, with pods. I guess I have a bit of a stumble, more like a lack of power. the bike runs good by and large, but doesn't have as much go as I would expect from a large bore I-4. prior to my XS, I rode a 400cc twin, fun, but not heavy enough for the highway and too small in the frame for my 6' 03" 240lb carcass. I know what I need to do, get the mixture set properly, and sync the carbs. The pod filters are not so much the cause of my issues as my desire to ride something that runs ok versus not riding it and fiddling around trying to get it perfect. the mixture is close...but not perfect. I've run both the stock 4 - 2 and a Jardine 4 -1, the stockhas less stumble (yes, i have a larger set of main jets for the 4 -1) the Jardine is better up top, while the stock is better down low, I also seem to be limited to 6500 - 7000 with the stock exhaust. with stock, I'm running 112.5 in 1 & 4, and 115 in 2 & 3. when running the Jardine, I run a set of jets I bought in a local bike shop, 136's in all four. I need to take the time to get everything dialed in, but I want to ride too much, not enough summer left, was late getting out of the gat this year as I thought I had significant carb issues and let it sit till july only to find out it was a bad pickup coil (checked that on a hunch after I did some reading here). Anyway, I'll get to it here in a few weeks, and I'll be ready to scream when the season comes next spring, but I'm riding all I can, while I can. guess i got off on a tangent...rambling as usual. I'm out fellas, have a nice day and ride safe

My '81 has pods/modded airbox and no off idle stumble. My '82 has the same setup and it also doesnt have an off idle stumble. The '82 does have some dead spots or its bogging down at highr RPMs but fine from off idle.
