    XS miles longevity

Thanks ED & Oswego. ride or ??? RIDE of course!.

Most of the harley razzing is good natured teasing. I have found the XSives to be some of the best folks around. A little backlash is expected. The attitude "If you do not use my favorite brand of oil or whatever then your mamma..." is not unheard of in many circles. I think it is mostly a silly joke, but taken seriously it gives oil threads a bad name.

My 80XS1100SG has about 86,000 miles on it. Many old time dealers amd motorheads say the motor is almost bulletproof. It will run pretty well on 3 cylinders and will run on 2. (my gold wing did not do that for me. but many reach high mileage.)

Bob Jones believed that one should be good for 100,000 miles. Bruced Gerkin got 160,000 on his (not all at 55mph or easy). This is really durable for a high performance machine.

I recently bought an 80XS1100G standard with touring stuff maybe 60.000mi. It needs some work since it has been parked for about 3 years, But I expect to get 50,000 more miles out of it. This remains to be seen as I have yet to put much time or effort into it.

I am pleased to see high mileage examples of any running bike that I own. The old classics perpetuate the dream of a bike you can ride forever and it never wears out or breaks down.

When you like a bike, enjoy riding it etc, you take care of it, A well cared for biike will generally last much longer.
It is a great big beautiful world out there
