  • Shorts and flip flops

With the high price of fuel many are taking to two wheels to save a gallon or two. Has anyone noticed the influx of persons riding new scooters and cycles wearing shorts and flipflops?

That isn't new I thought that it started with the intro of crotch rockets.

I have noticed a huge increase in the amount of bikes and scooters latley. Our local paper put out an article to remind motorists to watch out for scooters and motorcyclists and also a reminder to all the scooter riders they need to have an endoresment. It does kill me to see these people in shorts, flip flops, headphones, and no helmet!

as ben told the weather is warm and gas is hi so everyone is either buying a Bike, a scooter or has an ATV on the RD.The more i see the more i get that one is going to fall over hurt me LOL best one i saw so far was a couple on a 600CC honda scooter she had on a halter top, flip flops and shorts. he was wearing shorts sandals and a wife beater T shirt and best part thier combined GVW had to be over 600lbs.

I did see one good thing at teh yamaha dealer i deal with here one salesman would not sell a 600CC Ninja to this 17 yo Gal who was thier with her mom she had never ridden before an he told her you will die on this to whic she said well at least il look good doing it. he then told her she was an idiot and so was her mom for buying her one she left LOL it was perfect.
Bad enough trying toi dodge all teh cages here let alone and onslaught of un trained riders. one good thing about a fast bike you can stay ahead of the dummies.

            Hi John,
no you can't. They got more dummies down the road just waiting for you to show up so they can run stop signs in front of you, turn across your path without signalling or spill diesel on the street to bring you down.

I have this discussion with SWMBO nearly every time she wants to hop on the back and go for a ride. Like an idiot, I've let her ride with me in flip-flops and a tank top a few times. I hoped she would catch a large bug or a small pebble kicked up off of the road to make her understand what I've been trying to tell her, but no dice. I think it's time I lay down the law; NO SHOES, NO SHIRT, NO SERVICE.

I thought short, flip flops, and a tank top were required to ride on the back end of a crotch rocket but I can't complain about the view riding behind them.

LOL, I tell SWMBO that, but I switch the last line to FULL SERVICE.

I'm guilty. I used to be full on leather and jeans, until I made my pilgrammage down south. Lost the leather in W.VA, and wore my bedroom slippers 1,000 miles w/o socks. By the time I hit GA, I was in khaki shorts and a t-shirt, visor up on the helmet and mirrored sunglasses over the eyes. I AM the guy I used to laugh at. Sorry for that.

Guess I need to go shopping for new riding gear...stuff that's more hot-friendly. My NY leathers are just TOO much for my new home in GA. I'm liking the look of the new armored jackets, very airy and light, yet protective. I wonder if they have slippers like that...

Bob what gave me away? It was the peddle pushers wasn't it? I'll have to ask my youngest, who is in grad school now, what they call those now, stand by. OK they are called Capris now. Still looked ridiculous

Wingnut they are peddle pushers to me too when I can remember. When I can't they are high water pants. Nothing like a fat lady hunched over in those to start yer day.

                          Lo and Behold!

On my way home today from the office there was a crowd of people looking at a scooter squashed under a Honda Accord. I stopped incase I could be of assistance and lo and behold, the scooter was being ridden by a young lady, shorts and sandals but she did have a helmet. She was lucky in that it was a slow speed accident. She was just alittle scratched up on hands and knees from leaping off of the thing just before the Honda rolled over it.

'Drive Defensively' is taking on a much greater meaning.

Kind of funny...in reading many statements about flip flops on this board, the other day when I picked up a friend of mine to take for a ride, I got on her about her flip flops. She took my advice and went in to change to boots.

                              Road Rash

Just recently, we had a young guy leave the local Hooters in a pack of fellow crotch rocketters ( correct plural???). Tee shirt, shorts and no helmet, don't know about the shoe style. While out on the by-pass doing 70 MPH he hit a 4x4 laying on the road, flew about 100 ft, and disappeared in the tall grass. His buddies had to search for him until he woke up and stood up really p***ed off. The police said he had a bad case of road rash, but his injuries where not life threatening. Guess he should have stayed with the hot wings and the pitchers.
