        Why

Why do you say "I was afraid you'd say that"?

I just purchased a 1979 XS1100 standard. I was sure the headlight was the wrong one but it wasn't until I removed the hard saddle bags that I discovered she was sporting a 16" wheel, not 17'.

Despite the blown motor, the rest ain't bad, including the 2 big tote boxes full of spare parts.

            HEY Giant,

Check the VIN # on the frame, and the engine to make sure they match, and then check them with the #'s in the MISC section for determining which year/model you have. The 16 wheel should be for Specials, but folks have mixed and matched parts for a variety of reasons!?

What about the front axle and tank, Paul? A standard's axle is directly in line and underneath the fork tubes, ona a special is is on the front side of the lower legs. A standard tank is boxier, with a large, recesses rectangular filler cap. The Special cap sits proud of the tank, and is a narrower, elongated shape. MAybe you've got a Special?

                Thanks Ken and T.C.

No i'ts definitly a standard. The other giveaway was the slots in the rear brake rotor. Vin # is 2H7-110XXX. The front axel is as you said it should be too, and no slots in the rotors.

I think this bike may have a lot of history!

                And I'm ok with that.

" Despite the blown motor "

                              Hi Paul,
so how "blown" is the motor?
One assumes it don't run but is there just a nasty noise when you crank it or is there a big hole in the crankcase with a broken connecting rod poking out of it?
And don't worry about mix'n'match parts because Yamaparts swap like Lego so don't think of your new machine as a dog's breakfast, it's unique is all.
