    nice discussion

    I like the discussion above
It has been a subject in every Motorcycle club and forum all over the world, believe me. And it will always be a discussion without a winner. Because everybody has his own opinion about which modification is pure and therefore acceptable and which not.
Fact is that the XS1100 is getting older and older and trying to keep it absolutely stock will be impossible at one time. That is of course of you keep riding it.
At German meetings and especially the last UK meeting I have seen XS1100's that were brought back to absolutely new and stock condition. The price of doing that is staggering.
I know because I restore older bikes that I have owned before and at the moment I am desperately looking for a stock XS1100 exhaust and willing to pay.
If you do not ride it anymore (to keep it absolutely stock) the discussion starts if you are a real XS1100 rider or or not or maybe an investor..... This discussion is also held in every club in the world
Well I am a lover of stock older bikes but I am also a lover of streetfighter style bikes. For me that is easy: I can express these feelings in two different XS1100's
    Keep up the good work!

My hat is off to you preservationist; ye serve a very important function. As for myself, I'm a practical rider. I can't think of any stock model of any bike that can't be improved upon. For me a "stocker" is simply a point of departure. That may very well be what makes Harleys so popular... what pulled their ass out of the fire, is the mind boggeling array of accessories available to customize each model to each riders own "vision."

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
          I've been riding since 1959.

            Honorary Guru??

You know TC since Mathh has done all of these mods to this bike and has created something that we have all been drooling over for a long time maybe we can make him an honorary Guru. I mean in my own mind I had already considered the person who built that bike to be a freakin genious and I think most of us did. What do you think?

That is a very nice bike indeed. Lots of work involved too!
But with an exhaust like that the police will not give me a ticket but kill me on the spot

Math, if you contact George Danke Motorcycle Company in Battle Creek Michigan you may be able to find a new or like new exhaust. It won't be cheap.

The phone number is (269) 965-3341.

At one point several years ago he had an untitled (brand new) XS11 Special sitting in his show room.

He used to be a yamaha dealer, and according to George he was "stuck" with a large amount of yamaha inventory when yamaha and he went their seperate ways. I can tell you he has a lot of older bikes in his place, and I was told he still has new ones in the basement, in crates (I was told this 5-10 years ago).

Not sure if he still has them, but worth a shot for you. You may have to talk money to get him motivated to look for the parts. He's a pretty busy guy.

in the pictures at This website, George is the older man on the left. I think he was still riding his CR500 into his 70's. He's hardcore.

Your bike is really nice -

your bike helped to motivate me to put fuel injection on my bike.

I really like the swingarm and front end conversion you've done, I think that is a neat upgrade and someday I'd like to try that myself.

I also really like the hydraulic clutch. Does it help make the clutch pull easier?

                            Best Regards,

Nice to hear I motivated you and I did follow your topic then, (which still is alive now!).
I guess we are a bit of the same: when somebody says It can't be done , we just do it ourselves.
Pulling the hydraulic clutch requires a little bit more effort, most important for me was that you do not have to adjust the cable any longer.
Thank a lot for your tip on Battle Creek, I will for sure have a go at it.
